I just have a simple question: how come so called Regional Pilots dump on their own profession so much? The reason I ask is I find that they fly mostly jets; fly in the same weather, the same metropolitan airports with basically the same training as the so called Majors. Yet you all seem to be trained to think of your profession in the "regionals" as a crap job? Did you ever think that these companies only use and abuse you because they feed on this attitude? I only ask because I'm on the outside looking in, please excuse my ignorance.

I'm 50+ retired military with prior LCC 121 time and probably going back (less pay in an airplane is sometimes better than good pay at a desk job). I pretty much had my choice of regionals but the above is why I may go to Endeavor. They are opening an ATL base that is 1 1/2 hours from home and if I get stuck there for whatever reason, it gives me the best QOL down the road. As nice as flow may be, no guarantee it will be there or that I will want to step back in QOL. Endeavor has the DGI, but I'm not putting full faith in that either for same reasons.

The way that your company pays and treats you has a lot to do with your attitude, believe me. I can't fault these regional guys for being ****ed about doing the same work as their major airline "buddies" and getting paid 100K less to do it with significantly poorer work rules.
That being said, everyone has the choice to get out, just like I did. I didn't leave aviation, I just went to the 91 / 135 side of things where I am paid what I am worth and treated like a grown up.

I'm a 50+ retired military Helo pilot, and I'm enjoying flying for a living again. I'm out west, so SkyWest was the right choice for me. PM me if you have any questions about SkyWest.
I agree with some previous posts that QOL should be the main point helping you make the decision of which regional to go into. That said, interview at a couple of them--practice can help.

Im take on the question is. 1. are you planing on hanging your hat at a regional.. If yes, pick one were you want to live. Last thing you want to do in your 50's is commute to a crash pad across the country... 2. If you want to get to a major to hang your hat, then go for quick jet upgrade and domicile.. that can be accomplished in this day and age....

Thanks for the insightful answers. It seems the airlines profit off the backs of the working pilots. They know that you all love flying and have put quite a bit of hard work and your financial resources into it; yet they treat you quite badly. One other thought the term "regional airline" is really not correct at all; you folks fly in and out of many regions and even into other countries flying some pretty modern high flying equipment. I remember PBA(Provincetown Boston Airlines), Air New England, and Pilgrim Airlines, now they were regional.
