American Eagle Airlines will be conducting a Pilot Job Fair in the Chicago area on Saturday, March 10, 2007. The fair will be held at the Holiday Inn Select-O’Hare 10233 West Higgins Road, Rosemont, IL 60018. A presentation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by prescreening interviews and the scheduling of qualified applicants to come to Dallas to complete our interview process.

Base guarantee is worth noting. There is a (unverified) story floating around where in December they had a new hire class of 15. On the morning of day 1, they got their aircraft assignments: 1 RJ and a bunch of turboprops to SJU (San Juan). After lunch, only one guy came back, the RJ.

I'd love to hear more details about the program with respect to how long you're guaranteed a slot in a particular base. Obviously there must be a mechanism to adjust for manpower overages/shortages. Anyone?

I cannot figure out why a young and likely single guy would not want to go to Puerto Rico?? It can be good fun down there, although I guess to each his own. I can understand a married guy who doesn't want to move his family and / or deal with the crappy commute, but a young single guy? Do that many people have the ambilical cord still attached problem, or are simply afraid to try something new? Its not like you have to stay forever.

What do the girls look like there? Do they have beer? If the answers are good and yes respectively, I would go.

Well, HSLD I just went through the interview last week. I got hired I start hopefully on the 19th. Just waiting for the past companies to come through with prior employment info. It seems pretty straight forward with the base assignment. We were all asked where we wanted to go and that was it. Though there seems to be a method to it. For example of those hired, there was only myself from the NE. 2 from the dfw area, 1 miami, and 2 from SJU. So I guess that seems to be how they get people where they want them. So that just my observation from the whole thing. On side note, the AMR flight academy and DFW airport ops in general was quite impressive. It was my first time there.

From the research I've done, you made a good choice! I've pretty much decided 'no way' to Big Sky as well. Hope it goes well for you in training.

They need to begin offering incentives for new hires to go to SJU.

I think company paid housing would do it or some type of sign on bonus.

Hey, thanks yeah, I feel I made a good decision too. I kinda looked at big sky's track record of starting up and pulling out. I just felt it was a little too much risk and not enough reward.
