Kansas City isn't hard to hold as a junior reserve CA. You can upgrade at any time once you reach 1500hrs (unofficially - put in your upgrade bid when you have around 1450-1480ish hours - or about one to two weeks of worth of flying)

Any newhire FO's can look at getting a hardline (e.g. no reserve) right away out of training.

Any new captains or streethire captains can look at being on reserve until they have about 1.5 years of seniority. The reason being Air Midwest isn't releasing the more senior captains that have been awarded ERJ/CRJ captain at Freedom/Mesa. So there is a captain backlog that doesn't seem to be getting shorter.

I think the reason why Air Midwest is upgrading any FO to Captain even when they don't have enough FOs to fill all the FO positions is because once you're a Captain you will most likely stay instead of running off to another regional - and the company can still use you (as a Captain) to cover open FO shifts.

But Air Midwest has filled two newhire classes of 16 each since it started doing its own when Mesa Air Group stopped sending newhires to Air Midwest.

Anyone know if the pay scale listed on the airline profiles is still correct for the AMW side of MAG?

The pay scale went up a year ago, but they haven't changed this website yet. I don't have time to type in the entire pay scale right now, but here are the first four years for the Beech:

Captain
Year 1 $29.88
Year 2 $31.28
Year 3 $32.92
Year 4 $34.64

FO
Year 1 $18.88
Year 2 $21.22
Year 3 $22.87
Year 4 $24.58

The captain pay tops out at just over $40.

The pay scale will go up another 2% in September.

Howdy Gents, reading a lot about AMW sounds like a great way to get some turbine time w/ out having to go the PACE route at super low TT. Doesn't sound like it'll be pretty but I'll have a great time flying with the finest IFR pilots and more fun then a CFI.

I'm going to be done with ASMEL IFR/COM by may or June it's another $13,000 for CFII/MEI do I do that or go do pace and try for the Dash 8 out of Denver or take the quick turbine time at AMW with the intention of moving to Skywest, so I can be based in my native CA on the mighty emb-120? I'm looking for a western US base or a base in which i can visit CA twice a month.

Whether Air Midwest will still be direct hiring in May or June - no way to know. It all depends on how soon the current FOs leave the company - I think the average life expectancy of an FO here is about 6 months - by then they've acquired the minimums to leave for another regional or they're upgraded to 1st yr CA. If that continues to happen, then Air Midwest will still need more FOs.

Personally I think spending the money on your instructor certificates would be more beneficial to you than spending the same amount of money for PACE, because at least instructing you're keeping your options open and have a shot at going to a good quality regional that you can stand working at for 4-8 years, whereas PACE you're left with just Mesa and an expensive student loan.

If Air Midwest is still doing direct hiring of its own in May or June, you might want to consider that to get you to Skywest. Don't forget to factor the time you will need to spend at Air Midwest to get the flight time to work for another regional. Lots of things can happen during that time frame.
