Thanks! I am looking forward to it. I interviewed with Skyway last year but didn't take the job. From everything I have heard Mesaba is a place I really want to be.

I have been hearing some people talk about some pretty low reserve times, which is good news to my ears because I eventually want to commute from Minneapolis to Memphis (or Detroit if that's what I get). I was wondering, on a typical month of reserve, how many days I can expect to get off. And also, if they are generally in sequence or if it could be 2 days on, one day off, 2 days on again.... I realize that it's gonna be a whole different game when I'm to that point with all of the new hires getting out of training but I was just wondering if anyone could shed a little light on this. Thank you!

Pinnacle pilots are having a tough time - something Mesaba pilots can identify with. Hopefully negotiations will be concluded in their (Pinnacle pilot's) favor soon. In the meantime, PinnacleFO states,
"I now fully expect Mesaba to be operating 17 crjs by the end of the year at 3 per month. Why? We wont be able to handle them. I really think this was planned all along by NWA and Pinnacle Management. Lets get these 17 planes flying, stuff them down pinnacles throat, knowing that they wont be able to staff them, then we will take them away and try and force them into signing a contract. Mesaba just recently announced that their 900 deliverys are slowing to 1 per month for awhile, perfect for the delivery of 3 200's per month. " Would like to hear RJ85FO and other Mesaba members comments on rumors, comments, inuendos, speculation, etc. that this might happen. |

I heard the very same rumor today! All speculation at this point, but they way they are hiring (90 so far) it would not surprise me at all. Training is just going nuts with all the returning furloughs this week and the first new hires coming in two weeks. Incidentally, the 2 CR9 openings in this next class were filled with internal candidates again, so all 32 new hires will go to the Saab. |
Anybody interview on Wednesday, March 28th? If so have you heard anything yet?

In December, Northwest reached a long-term services agreement for Memphis-based Pinnacle to operate 124 Canadair Regional Jets (CRJs), which seat 50 passengers. The agreement further stated that Pinnacle could fly 17 additional 50-seaters for Northwest, but the big airline would have the option of removing those airplanes if Pinnacle didn't negotiate a new agreement with its pilots union by March 31. Northwest may have a perfect home for the removed aircraft. The airline is expected to close its purchase of Mesaba in the coming weeks, and the Minnesota-based regional carrier already has federal certification to fly the 50-seat jets now operated by Pinnacle. . . . . . . Currently, there are 16 pilots on Mesaba's payroll tasked with flying one 50-seat CRJ for Northwest. [A second one is assigned to Compass] Two years ago, Mesaba geared up to operate 15 of the CRJs, but Northwest halted delivery of those planes after Northwest filed for bankruptcy. . . . . Now, Mesaba is getting ready to take delivery of three dozen CRJs that seat 76 passengers. Mesaba will be Northwest's sole operator of the 76-seat aircraft. The cockpits for the 50-seat and 76-seat CRJs are similar, and the pilots who fly them get the same license from the Federal Aviation Administration. So it would not be difficult for Mesaba to shift pilots from one CRJ model to another. . . . Guesses ????? |
I would be very suprised if the rj's went to mesaba. All this talk about losing planes is more of the same retirique from management. I thought you mesaba guys would have learned that by now. Just 4 months ago you guys thought you were going out of business, then nwa suprises us all by buying you and then giving you the 900's. All this talk is just ploy... WHY THE HE LL WOULD NWA CARE ABOUT 9E PILOTS HAVING A CONTRACT!!! THEY DON'T!!!! NWA is going to pay pinnacle the same amount for flying the planes no matter what. Pinnacle is the one trying to squeeze every dime out of their fixed payments. The only reason they threw that clause in there is to scare us. Just like in NOVEMBER of last year NWA MANAGEMENT said they wouldn't talk to us about signing another ASA till WE had a pilot contract,,, well we all know what a lie that was!!! I think NWA and Pinnacle ran out of time and had to make the announcement. So our management had them throw this date in to scare us!!! think about it guys, in the contract it says pinnacle will get payed no matter what... If we keep the planes, nwa still pays us, if they take the planes, nwa will owe us around 40 million dollars... do you really think the stingiest basta rds on the planet are going to pay us for not doing the flying????? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! I WILL NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP!!!!
With the aircraft now reverting to Northwest, the size of Pinnacle's stipulated unsecured claim against Northwest will increase by $42.5 million, the regional carrier said in a statement. IT IS STUPID TO THINK THAT NORTHWEST WOULD NOT ONLY TAKE THE PLANES BACK BUT PAY US 42.5 MILLION DOLLARS TO DO SO?????? if they do that, i would be really scared if i were at mesaba right now. |

EDIT: Did some research. It seems like Pinnacle will submit a $42.5 million dollar claim for future "loss of income" associated with the seventeen aircraft all of which are not in their possession. It will be interesting to hear what the bankruptcy judges says. |

I don't think any Mesaba pilot wants to see Pinnacle go through the ups and downs they experienced last year. The article I posted is obviously "short" on facts. We all need to be better educated on the "stipulated unsecured claim against NWA" and its relationship to the fifteen CRJ200s plus (1 @ Mesaba and 1 @ Compass)
i know you guys don't,, we are virtually on the same team. i have walked your line before, just like some mesaba guys walked ours.... i just think it is messed up that our management along with nwa's management would go to these lengths to trick us into signing a contract. Luckily we have a good union, and a strong mec. Our management even wanted to circumvent (did i spell that right rj85 :) ) our mec and put it the contract out for vote with out it even being ta'd. Our mec put that down like it should have been. |

Well, just got back from my interview in MSP yesterday, anyone interested, PM me for details.
|
Now does that mean that Compass will operate only one CRJ-200 until the ERJs arrive or will they be getting more 200s? In the news they stated that Compass will begin operation with the CRJ-200...
|
Im headed to MSP on the 25th for an interview. Any advice?
|
Paok...be yourself...relax. Study the AIM...STUDY THE AIM...STUDY THE AIM!!! If you can get your hands on it look over the ILS rwy 6 ISP. Know the systems of the airplanes you are currently flying inside and out. It was a very painless process, I have to say.
|
Seriously don't memorize the ILS 6 approach. It's not the same, it's made up. if you memorize the wrong approach and don't fly what is handed to you in the interview, well you dug your own grave. You will get plenty of time to study the approach plate during the interview process. Just have a good scan, know how to fly any ILS, how to enter and fly a hold, and you will do fine.
Know your aim, have a good attitude, think safety. Ask questions, anything you want to know they will answer and if they don't have the answer they will gladly find out for you. |
I didnt get that approach. I got an approach to teteboro. I was the only that didnt get the white plains approach, but I had a walk in...i think they might have been f@@@@@@ with me. The AIM isnt going to help you on the interview, only personal experiences, and the written test isnt anything to lose sleep over. Good luck to you though
|
Read the AIM, it will help with the written exam.
|
Neither the TEB or HPN approach are the actual ones, they've been modified.

The first CRj 900 for mesaba
http://avro.mymesaba.com/MyHomePage/...tml/crjjpg.htm |
I guess they do change the approaches from time to time...I was expecting HPN or TEB and got ISP. The formula seems to be flying an ILS to mins, going missed and doing either the published or ATC-directed hold for the missed. As for the AIM, on the test I took many questions specifically said "according to the AIM..." so I recommend studying it. The interview with HR and the CP has much more to do with your personality, leadership skills and work experience...they just want to get to know you in about 45 mins of conversation. That was my experience. Good luck to anyone going to interview.
