MESABA Vacancy

Welcome aboard New Hires!

Mesaba has posted a vacancy for 32 new hires. 2 CRJ-900 openings and 30 Saab openings.

Class starts on April 23.

Some of you probably already have been notified. See you on the line.

Mesabah 03-23-2007 02:22 PM

Did they not promise the new hires the 900 or was that just a rumor.

Nope, they said either was a possibility. If anything, it seemed like they were trying to sell the SAAB to us, IMO. I haven't heard anything yet... I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

No promises. Problem is they have to get people on the property NOW to cover vacations, upgrades, etc. The jets don't start arriving until end of May. New hires in the June and after timeframe will stand a good chance of getting a jet slot, but there will always be Saab openings as well.

SENIORITY is everything in this business. If you are offered a class, take it and don't be picky about equipment. Again, the pay is the same regardless for F/O's. The first new hire will have Seniority number right around 600. Junior Saab captains when we have all of the airplanes by the end of 2008 will be in the 640's. Getting on NOW, means you have a much better chance of seeing upgrade in the next 12-18 months.

The road to the left seat CR9 is through the SAAB left seat. Grab them while their hot!! :D

They NEVER promised the 900 to newhires. Didn't you start that rumor?

Just seems like 125+ saab FO's seems excessive. Anyone know the status of those 15 CRJ's that were supposed to go to pinnacle?

Not if there's a 12 month CA upgrade. MESABA doesn't want to get into the same situation as Pinnacle. No captains. Pack em in! But I do see a new rumor starting up in your post.

we have already got the 15 from the desert, now we are waiting to get the 2 back from mesaba, actually compass has one of them... hence the 150percent pay for picking up time and the 95 hour lines... at least i got 15 days off in april.

Are you guys having to pick up time or are most doing it 'cause of the 150% pay?

nwa757 03-24-2007 06:40 PM

Do you Mesaba folks predict a flow through with mainline now that you are wholly owned?

Could happen. We have to see what the mainline guys workout with the 2 subsidarys when the TA says they can have one first. Might be good. This Compass thing is puzzling.

xjsaab 03-24-2007 07:04 PM

no flow thru put down the crack pipe. It won't benefit NWA.

Does that mean that so far Mesaba has hired 32 pilots or does that mean that there is a pool and they are pulling 32 from it?

I got called last Tuesday (3/20) and asked to fly the RJ, but they had to offer the Saab for seniority. A good friend of mine is leaving another carrier for XJ and got called immediately after I did and offered the same thing. Any idea when the RJ class starts or how many in the RJ pool?

WIFlyer 03-26-2007 11:53 AM

I just applied today. Anyone know the turnaround for notification if they would want me to visit for an interview?

starvin marvin 03-26-2007 12:05 PM

I got called the next business day, but I also applied as soon as they dropped the mins. They were still trying to fill the interviews that week.

detc 03-26-2007 12:20 PM

I applied at about 2 AM Thursday Feb. 22 and got a call at 8:30 that morning. Interviewed the next Tuesday and got offered the next day.

Cubdriver 03-26-2007 12:27 PM

Sorry if I missed it- what are the mins.

detc 03-26-2007 12:33 PM

Look online at mesaba.com

Last I knew it was 600/50

You apply right on the website, and there should be a place to upload your resume.

detc 03-26-2007 01:48 PM

Just got a call for class on June 4th in the 900

XJPILOT1 03-26-2007 01:55 PM

Welcome! You picked the best regional!

detc 03-26-2007 02:00 PM

Sucks to wait that long, though. Sounds like not many new hires are getting the 900 though. Any idea how many CRJ classes will go through before June 4?

I think if they could they'd ship you out next month (April). I think the next few classes are SAAB only. The 900's aren't do on property until end of May. Enjoy your free time. :D

SAAB's.....900...I used to own a SAAB 900.

Class of 10 CR9 FO's on 4/17
Class of 2 CR9 FO's on 4/30
Beyond that, I haven't seen a crew planning document with any details.

This first vacancy for new hires had 30 Saab and 2 CR9 on it. Once the jets start coming on line, you can expect a shift in slight favor of the CR9 for new hires. We will be so fat on the Saab, I don't even fully understand the logic behind it.

Just under 100 of the furloughs are returning starting next week. The training center is going to be a ZOO!

These aren't newhires though (are they)?

No. The first new hire class is the 4/30 class. I responded that way so we could establish that there will be at least 12 CR9 FO's ahead of the 6/4 class.

Was this the first class offered to you or did you get offered the saab in april? Just wondering if they're already calling for June.

detc 03-26-2007 03:24 PM

I got called last Tuesday and told they'd like to have me on the 900, but had to offer the 4/23 date for the Saab for seniority. I had to turn it down (I know, I know) for the 900

Is that what you call it? History hasn't proven it? Hopefully the future will? Until then, I'm glad you're an optimist!

No offense! Just picking on your opinion! :D

Interviewed last Thursday, got the call today. May 28th class date on the SAAB. Can't wait!

Congratulations as well. Tough call to give up that kind of seniority at a regional like this one (senior). You wil have fun in the CR9 I am sure. It's always neat being part of the learning curve on a new equipment type.

Welcome aboard.

True, keep your optimism, without it we'll all turn into SkyHigh. Seriously!

XJPILOT1 03-26-2007 05:35 PM

SAAB's the upgrade vehicle. Rather fly pinky for a year or so then ya move left. Just my 2 cents.
