no economic value to those companies. They are independent from NW.. Might see a bit of a bidding war as NW tries to lower costs. Both should be smart enough to not "Independence Air" themselves in Ch 11. NW willput it's cash where it does the most good. They need regionals in order to shelve the older more expenseive aircraft. Scope agreements with current unions will have to go for that to be effective. -- But then Ch 11 is for adjusting contracts.

Mesaba
I wonder is Mesaba will be getting Pinnacles 15 crj's?
|
pitiful
I can't believe you are actually dreaming about getting some jets from another airline that's in financial trouble when you both work for , and depend on the same feeder. you are a pitifull human being . that is exactly why pilots salaries, beneficts and quality of life have been decresing since the 70's . there is aways some scumbag like you who will work for less for a percive advancement and will hurt everyone in the future. hey , why don't you call the management at Atlas Air Wordwide Holdings and let them know you are ready and willing to work for less than what Polar Pilots are asking for?
( in case you are wondering I don't work nor have I ever work for Mesaba) |

Get a Clue
Northwest owns those jets, not Pinnacle. Just to inform you, Pinnacle can't even keep up with the jets they currently have. If Mesaba looses all 35 Avro's, it would make sense that they would shift some of their crjs to Mesaba.
|
if you think I'm wrong, ask any retired or soon to be retired captain from one of the majors , including the ones that are now gone ( like pan amm, eastern, flyng tigers).compare their salaries and quality of life with what we have now and adjust for inflation ( also compare their salaries with the cost of owning a home and a car then and now). WHEN ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION PILOT SALARIES HAVE BEEN DECREASING.one reason is that there is always someone always ready to do it for less for his/her perceived personal gain. and that is the reason alpa was founded. so pilots would band together and work for more not less ( read flying the ine 1 & 2, alpa will sen them to you free of charge)

That's true...but that doesn't have anything to do with Northwest going bankrupt. It has to do with the fact that low cost carriers like JetBlue and Southwest are flying more efficient airplanes than the "Legacy" airlines.
|
sure, and you have to add inneficient management with their own personal gain and short term goals. however no one shold be drooling over another airline jets and jobs.that's what our airline execs exploit to pit pilot group agains pilot groups....want more RJ? THEN YOU NEED TO TAKE LESS PAY SO WE ARE MORE COMPETITIVE...........when we tell management to take those jets and shove 'em we will see improvement. until then , the Mesa story will repeat tiself again and again.

Hate to interrupt the P & M'ing
Northwest Contributes Pinnacle Stock to Pension
Northwest Airlines said it has contributed $309 million of stock in regional air carrier Pinnacle Airlines and $60 million cash to employee pensions to meet funding requirements. Northwest in August received U.S. Labor Department approval to use the stock from the regional carrier to meet pension-funding shortfalls instead of cash. With those contributions, Northwest has met contribution obligations for pension plan year 2002 and calendar year 2003, the air carrier said. Northwest also contributed some Pinnacle stock to employee pensions in January. This happened on September 16. Thus we can make two possible conclusions: 1.) NWA is devious conniving and other nasty words and will really shaft it's employees by driving Pinnacle into CH 11 and making that stock worthless or 2.) They will continue to do business and shift from higher cost aircraft into lower cost RJ's by allowing Pinnacle to continue to grow and allow their employees to share in that growth by gowing the pension fund. Take your pick. |
Northwest is parking 15 of Pinnacles crjs, 9 of Mesaba's Avros by Oct 31 and the entire Avro fleet by Dec 20 this year. News today is that Mesaba will probably lay off people as will Pinnacle. No one knows what else will happen until Oct 9 when the judge decides what will take place through the bankruptcy proceedings. Until then, all of the above is true for now and the rest we can only speculate. It sucks.
