Ties In The Workforce

Then there’s Abercrombie & Fitch (fashion shop, not the safari outfitters of the past) where crews were told to wear t-shirts, jeans and flip-flops to fly. One G5 captain objected, was fired and sued for wrongful termination. Casual can taken too far.

Hawaiian's B717 interisland pilots, ties are optional. Island Air (before they closed doors), the pilots never wore ties (they weren't even issued ties... or a hat... or blazer). Wasn't Virgin America tie-less as well prior to the Alaska merger?
My current airline policy: The tie shall be worn unless both of the following conditions are met: Locally reported temperature 90°F (32°C) or greater. No more than the top button is unbuttoned when the tie is removed.

This. I always feel like a door to door proselytizer when I go to work in the summer. The only time ties look good is with modern fashions and trim people. You want all pilots to look professional? Then institute mandatory weigh ins and have uniforms that dont make us look like cheap polyester caretakers with gold/silver trim.

FedEx caravan feeder pilots, we fly 3:00 in the morning, no one sees us except rampers, we are required to wear ties, go figure!
