We pushed back off our gate (22), which, due to the size of the 400, blocks the exit from the portion of the ramp where you guys, and our Frontier jets, park. Your jet had its beacon on when we started pushback, but our engines were already running, and I knew we wouldn't be a factor. Ground cleared us to push, and while we were in the process of disconnecting from the tug, the ExpressJet crew called for taxi. Ground said they would have to wait while we got out of their way, unless they could get by. They said they though they could get by on our left (between our a/c and the walkway). There was actually no way in heck they could have fit through there, but they couldn't tell that from where they were. Ground said, 'Sure, if you think you can fit through there!' I said, "I would rather you didn't. We are going to have our tug driving through there momentarily." Ground said, "WELL NEXT TIME YOU SHOULDN'T BLOCK THEM, HORIZON!" This was pretty bizarre, since he was the one who approved our push, and when we started push they weren't at all ready to taxi. To cap it off, by the time they made it across the ramp to where we actually were, we were ready to roll, and there was no actual conflict anyway!
I have no problem with the Express Jet crew, since they had no idea how long we would be before we were ready (although leaving the taxi line to try to squeeze between us and the walkway would have been nuts- but like I said, I don't think they could see that from where they were), but the ground control was WAY out of line, and I was wondering what the Jetlink crew thought about the whole deal.
Obviously, I would never block another a/c, from any carrier. I look at other planes as fellow pilots first, and 'competitors' second. I'm not about to try to screw other pilots so the JOs (wow, that works on so many levels!) of the world can get even richer.
It really wasn't as big a deal as it sounds, but definitely weird and uncalled for by the idiot in the tower cab.
