Express Jet Question
Who gets the Mexico Routes in Express Jet? Does it go senior?
I'm still in college, but my plan is to live in Mexico (Guadalajara) while I work for a regional, (hopefuly express jet). $1600 should last longer in a place where people earn $40 dollars a week minimum wage. With $1600 I'll probably live like a rich man.

Mexico goes to everybody, no matter how senior or where you are based. You have some guys who bid around it like the plague and then you have other guys who have girlfriends in every city down there and bid it all the time. Its possible to get some of the good overnights while on reserve or when youre still really junior. Just depends on what you like. GDL overnight is really nice BTW

Yep, 1600 will go a little farther down there. Paying departure taxes every time you commute back into the US might chip away at it a little bit. Don't forget, if the flights are full, there is NO JS'ing in cockpit back into the US.

Why can't people jumpseat back into the U.S?
There's no way to come back (free) in Mexicana, AeroMexico, AA, COL, or any of those others?
Its kinda funny to not be able to jumpseat on ExpressJet.
I know its stupid to ask this question, but there's no way start flying out of GDL. After a crew comes in for a layover do they leave the plane there or is there another crew there waiting to board the plane? I know thats what the home base is for. My bad Stupid Question.
Anyways its only a 3 hour commute to any of the border states. Clevland the most likely. IAH, and EWR are farther away.

in a year its almost a 3G's. Beside Mexico is not that bad when you have pocket money. I probably sucks when your broke. Thanks for your held dojetdriver you really opened my eyes to that dep tax. I just dont want to be broke in the states. 1000 on rent, 200 on food, doesnt even leave room for a car, and that not taking into account the 20G debt i'll probably aquire. Anyways the dream is still alive, I'm just considering my options here. Thanks.

If you want to save money then you need to move to Houston. Apartments are cheap, gas is cheap, and other cost of living expenses are cheap. Not to mention the best reason no commute. That is the best way to go on first or second year pay. Or even 7 year pay.
The only good thing about the commute to Mexico is that those flights are rarely cancelled. Those are real money maker flights for the company so they try and always send them.
By the way no one drinks the water there not even the locals.

I live in Houston with a roommate in a 900 sq.ft. apartment for $610/mo ($305 each after we split). Cable/internet is another $90/mo, electricity is like $30 with the AC on all the time, water and garbage are like $10-15/mo combined. I used to live in CA, Houston is SOOOOOO much cheaper and the commute from the west coast sucks, especially on CAL. You are WAY better of just moving to Houston than trying to live in Mexico. Besides, south Houston is a lot like northern Mexico anyway .
