Round Two:

For the most part, I blame the industry, not the pilots, for 250 hr pilots getting into the right seats of airliners. It's like daddy giving you a 911 for a high school graduation present. Who would pass up this hot ride? The newbie pilots don't have the experience (in some cases maturity) to know that they have no business in a M.80 jet with the lives of 20-75 other people in their hands.

If that were the case, it would be against FAA regs. Besides, you have a Captain there to babysit you.

Sometimes legal and safe are two different things.

"Besides, you have a Captain there to babysit you."

Not his job.

But his problem...

Thank you lord baby jesus....................somebody with some sense. Its funny these Colgan guys think they won some big victory with the Q's, more like they are getting bent over and just dont realize it, wake up...............

PS. Cant wait to see what kind of a dynamite job the Colgan guys will do in EWR, especially the mx, those guys are top notch..............

Hey Saab, I bet you regret leaving Colgan now. Just think, you could be flying the Q400 as a Captain making the same as you would when you are flying Captain on one of the 30 E-135s you guys have. However, chances are you'll be in the 145, which still has less (not half like the 135) seats than the Q400 and pays more.

Good point NWA757

For all the Colgan pilots happy about their Q400's. Take a look at this comparison of Colgan and GoJet. Colgan flies a 74 seat Q400 while GoJet flies a 66 seat CRJ-700.

Code:

Q400 CA Colgan    CRJ-700 CA GoJet
$53- 1st year      $57 - 1st year
$55- 2nd year      $58 - 2nd year
$56- 3rd year      $60 - 3rd year
$58- 4th year      $62 - 4th year
$60- 5th year      $64 - 5th year

Q400 FO Colgan    CRJ-700 FO GoJet
$21 - 1st year      $23 - 1st year
$26 - 2nd year      $25 - 2nd year
$27 - 3rd year      $34 - 3rd year

When I say their pay rates are lower than GoJet, we have a serious problem. Colgan needs a union! PERIOD. End of story.

As TXTECHKA pointed out "Sometimes legal and safe are two different things." Learning the difference between "can" and "should" is part of that experience from which pilots develop ADM. Everybody knows that the company will "flex" the legal limits of the FARs and laws to get the job done. However, when the Fit hits the SHan, it's the a$$es of the two aviators in the front office that are on the line. These aircraft require two pilots for a reason. Otherwise, you'd see automation taking the place of the SIC.

Ref: that video I mentioned in the first post, I guess that CA would have been better off with another computer instead of that copilot. Why he allowed it, I have no idea. Granted it was CAVU, but still....Enroute is one thing, but in the terminal environment, not to mention one surounded with Patriot and Avenger missiles batteries, I'd definitely be cocked, locked, and ready to rock IF anything happened.
