Kew Gardens is cool. You take the Airtrain from terminal 2/3 to terminal 4 and get the Q10 bus to Metropolitan and Lefferts and then walk to your pad. It is about a 30 minute bus trip depending on traffic and the stops. In the morning you take the Qrunner to the airport or the Q10 bus. Qrunner is 7$ and leaves every half hour but only take 15 minutes to get to the terminal.
You can get a metro card at Albas deli for the Q10 bus which is 2$ a trip to the airport. The Q10 runs like every 10 minutes. You will be the only cracker on the bus but it is safe. There is great Italian food and pizza at Dani's, a plethora of Chinese restaurants around the area and Albas which has great Cubana sandwiches. For night life there is the one and only Kew Club but the bartenders are really cool there. All of the pilots in the area slum there. You can grab the LIRR right up the street and get into the city right at Penn station for 4$ offpeak. Or you can grab the Q10 to take you to the E train and ride right down to SOHO and party with the freaks in the village. Its a great place to be! |
I've heard varied opinions on this, but how hard is it to commute, say from CMH or CVG, while on reserve in JFK? I understand a crashpad is necessary.

you get 11 days off as a reserve guy. One block of three and one block of four plus a day here and a day there. You can commute during the blocks . The rest of your days of you will just not have time.

I think commuting from CVG to JFK is pretty though. Flights are always pretty full with lots of standby travelers.

Any thoughts on CMH? I currently live here and would like to keep it that way if at all feasible. Thanks!

Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate the heads up.
When do you find out your training schedule? Is it the first week or does it vary based on what phase you're in? Also, when do travel privileges kick in? Just trying to plan for a good friend's out of town wedding that falls during training. Thanks! |

Ive noticed alot of Pilots that work for comair are commuting thru LEX, SDF, IND and DAY. All of which are in driving distance of CVG. When the winter storm rolled thru CVG and up towards NYC in FEB, i was told to positive space crew members just to get them to work. So they try and help when they no its bad.
