In the long run you'd be better off going to DAL now, getting furloughed at some point for a few years, and just getting a non-flying job if needed to tide you over. The only real risk is that DAL would go into a permanent death spiral (ala USAir pre-merger) with no hope of recall.

cant believe you didnt take the interview. you would have been at the front end of delta's hiring. but then again if delta and nwa merge hypothetically speaking, youll be right back on the street.

Yeah I agree, def a tough decision, I would go to DAL ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!, but getting the PIC is the "smarter" thing, unless of course you go to DAL and dont g et furloughed.than it would be the smartest thing you have ever done..........................ahhhhhhhhhhhh what an industry

Take the interview. If you don't get it, there's no dilemma. If you do, and you don't accept it, look under the yellow pages under "S" for Shrink, cause there's gotta be something wrong if you don't take the job.

Word from my buds at Delta is that upgrade for a new hire could be 10 years or more. When they shrank, a lot of guys took the early out, leaving a bunch of early 50's/40's captains. It's a risk, but well, what isn't really.
