Like I said, I usually do tip, but if my crew wants to create some image of me in their heads over one interaction, the problem is with them, not me.

What happens if they think I am a cheap &^%( like you call me, but then I buy the crew dinner on my credit card? Oh my, I guess the world is more than black and white. I am surprised all the heads of people are not blowing up all over town with these grey area happenings. How do you sleep at night?

Hey man if you want to consider it stealing I am not going to stop you from thinking that. You should feel that level of shame.

As far as buying the crew dinner after stiffing the van driver after he lugged your way overweight bags for a three day trip into and out of the van; you're right they won't consider you a cheap f@!#. But they will question why you have such a high level of distain for blue collar workers.

I always tip the van driver...

Never go swimming on an full stomach
If married, it’s better to be happy than right
Never bet on Kryptonite when Eddie Mush is around
😁😁

if you bothered to read, I said I always tip if they handle my bags, if I don’t have cash I grab my own bags. I guess reading comprehension and Over the top statements go hand and hand.

So knowingly stealing from a restaurant and not tipping a dollar are the same thing?

Nothing has changed in this industry...cheap is cheap.

20 years ago cheap pilots made excuses to not tip a buck

20 years later it’s still a buck and a new generation is continuing the cheap tradition of cheap pilots past.

You’re cheap. Pack a little cash and tip the driver when they are there on time, helpful, and friendly. It’s not that hard. You’re embarrassing to the crew you’re with when you don’t tip. Rationalize it how you want, you’re embarrassing.

There is no way to justify going against a very social and industry norm except that you are just a cheap person

No where in my original post did I write or imply that anyone stole anything from any restaurant, not sure where that’s coming from.

My daughter waits tables in AZ. The base pay is $8/hour (used to be $2.13). This 20 year old community college student pulls down $300/day in tips.

My first year as a regional pilot (Eagle 2000) I made $17K.

Times have indeed changed.

But I tipped van drivers back then, still tip now.

About once a quarter I stop by the bank that I often drive by and withdraw $100 in ones. I then spend a few minutes trying to convince the tellers that I'm not a strip club regular. When I get home, I stuff the stack of ones in my flight bag. The whole ordeal adds probably 10 minutes to whatever I was already doing that day.

Thats all it takes. $100 and ten minutes of my time, every three months or so, to not be a dick.

I've found restaurant servers are generally happy to break larger bills and get rid of their singles. Avoiding the stripper stigma is just a nice bonus.

$1,$2,$3, it depends, how many onboard, how far. If VIPs included, trend upwards.
