Why do regional crews hardly ever tip the van drivers?

Everyone at my company seems to tip 90% of the time, especially captains.

I didn't carry any cash before this job... maybe that's part of it?

In my observation, the non-tippers are usually a very small percentage, and are senior CA's... at regionals and majors.

I don't make a trip the bank to get ones, if I don't have any ones they may not get tipped if they can't break a larger bill (they might get a fiver as a tip in that case if they were on time and helpful).

They also don't get a tip if they don't touch my bags.

Same here. Tip everytime so long as they load/unload my bags. Tip a bit more for good tips on things to do/places to eat if new to that overnight or in a new hotel/area. Tip even more if they run you somewhere after you check in/change out to uniform.

Don’t get out of van? No tip. (Unless there are extenuating circumstances of course)

I’d put it around 95% if I had to guess.

Maybe just a bad run of seeing it lately on my part. Seemed odd.

I usually don’t tip because I don’t carry cash at all. So I try to make it a point to lift my own bags.

Just found out that Frontier cabin crew can be tipped. If we extend that to regional pilots then the tips may flow more freely. Bus driver...plane driver.... Same dif.

TIP is an acronym, not a word. It stands for To Insure Promptness.

If I have to wait on the van, no tip.
if I have to move my own bag, no tip.

Same here. In fact, I’d rather grab my own bags; not because they can’t do it or don’t do a good job, but rather because I’m capable and don’t need to be treated like something special. Just my 2 cents.

I really don't understand why crews feel compelled to tip. Riding in the hotel van is a required part of my job. Sure, if a driver really helps us out with something I'd tip. I always tip for rides off duty (i.e. restaurants, or into town). But just mindlessly giving away hundreds of dollars a year for something I have to do for work never made sense to me.
