Training Environment
#2
TSA is pretty tough. My class only had about 50% make it through. I heard though that some of the recent classes are having better luck though...maybe standards were lowered, I don't know. It was pretty much a sink or swim environment when I went through.

That article says it all though---attitude is everything. Good attitude=no problems...The only think you really need to be able to do is fly in the IFR system, the rest will come to you! Good luck this weekend!

This is NOT typical, although a very few training programs are notorious for this sort of thing (mesa dash-8 for example). Most programs that hire relatively experienced pilots have a 10% wash rate. I understand that this increases somewhat with low-time new hires, but nothing like 50%.

I second that.... AWAC's washout rate is more like 2%. I think XJT has an excellent training dept. from what I've heard as well.

yeh, the december tsa class had some issues with that 50% washout rate, kinda crazy. Typical around TSA used to be below 10% from what i've been told, my class was 15%, and i've seen it bounce from 15-30 everyonce in a while. They do have a tougher program than most, and it's much more "sink, or swim" which leads to a question of why put up with it given the reward you get...find somewhere better to go.
