Stop the “I can’t stay home” on FB!

Regarding the “I can’t stay home, I’m an airline pilot” profile pics on Facebook.

Colleagues, please stop this self aggrandizing none sense. Your companies are begging you to take time off and stay home. Tax payers are going to be paying to keep you employed. Leave that line to the first responders and medical staff. Have a little humility.

Agreed.....

Pilots love self gratification.

THANK YOU!

Sometimes we carry medical personnel, sometimes we carry medical supplies, but the vast majority of the time we are just allowing people to travel all over the country. Just like the experts say we shouldn't. It's a joke to act like we're the hero in this story.

Sky5 04-23-2020 09:40 AM

Thank you! I saw one Facebook post where a guy dressed up in his pilot uniform (minus the wings) took a picture in his bathroom mirror, announced his first day as an 'airline pilot' and he hasn't even begun training.

how’d he have a uniform if he hadn’t started training?

I don't have a FB account, but to compare a pilot with a first line responder in this case is ridiculous.

ReadOnly7 04-23-2020 10:10 AM

None of these people are acting like they are important....the posts are making fun of the idea that we are essential. But yes, stop that BS. You’re making us all look lame.

There are flight attendants on Facebook with a circle around their profile picture saying “aviations first responders”

That's the AFA talking point to them. I mean I think of a bartender as a first responder in a restaurant.

Anyone can walk into a Crew Outfitters or any store on the interwebs and buy a pilot uniform. Don't tell TSA though... The almighty uniform is what makes us legit.

firefighterplt 04-23-2020 02:03 PM

Tools...tools everywhere.

We're not heroes like the people pulling 100 hour weeks working with sick people.

But what we do is necessary, 50% of my pax last week were US congressmen or senators. Lot's of LEOs too. Those guys need to be doing business both in DC and at home. I know who they are because the company tells us. Most of the rest of the pax look like professionals on business travel, presumably supporting something essential.

There are a few maskless backback toting millennials who are obviously taking advantage of a cheap vacation opportunity. But that doesn't mean the other pax aren't doing something important.

saxman66 04-23-2020 06:59 PM

I’ve seen a ton of FA’s make that post but no pilots. It does get a little annoying.

They also can do what they want. A backpack is more useful than a briefcase. They probably also don’t carry cash or have a wallet with 90 credit cards stuffed in their ass pocket. Combine that with the proven ergonomic benefits of a backpack, their spines are pretty healthy. But it’s ok, continue to knock the millennial generation, Boomer. Too bad more of them aren’t pilots. They might actually know how to use VNAV.

So you knock him for knocking millennials while proceeding to knock “boomers”. Pretty hypocritical.

I suppose it is. I want to make my point that blaming the problems in the world on a group of people based solely upon the year they were born is not cool. ESPECIALLY when one can find many examples of the problems in the world that occurred while the boomers have been at the helm.

Making fun of millennial quirks is so satisfying for some reason, but I'm not a boomer, haha.

VNAV has been around for a long time at the majors, unless you're a WW-II vet you got to use it.

But most millennials in the pilot ranks are not the stereotypical sort... if the shoe doesn't fit, no need to be offended.

Roy Biggins 04-24-2020 08:59 AM

My wife and I were talking about us being deemed essential...as she put it, we’re the ones running around the country spreading the virus (tongue in cheek, but there’s some truth to it)

highfarfast 04-24-2020 09:46 AM

I've got to say that nothing screams "I'm a stereotypical millennial" than calling someone a boomer, who is not a boomer.

They also probably don’t even know why they’re called boomers.

rld1k 04-24-2020 10:42 AM

Nothing screams out of touch boomer like not knowing the 30yr old boomer meme

captive apple 04-24-2020 10:45 AM

Millennials? 30 somethings are backpacking around?

Hehe, I was waiting for that but I was already familiar since I hear millennials use that phrase everytime someone calls them out. :-)

Longhornmaniac8 04-24-2020 11:08 AM

The only pilots I've ever seen using backpacks are "seasoned" mainline guys. I've never seen a regional pilot use one.

I would agree with this statement.

I've seen both. You need to look around a little more.

Millennials are too poor to travel anyway

This is awful. We have a lot of “female” pilots at my airline doing this for their instafame.

trip 04-25-2020 06:51 AM

What's ironic is your supposed to be interacting with loved ones while locked down but the women pilot clips I seen are flaunting themselves on beaches or ski slopes? Very cringe.
