I don’t make 100k and have very few expenses; I also don’t have kids yet. I was giving what I consider a basic lifestyle of a typical family. The problem is first we are a professionals and should be compensated to allow a normal lifestyle. Second problem is most are not saving sufficiently to fund their own retirement. Sure you could go lease a nice range rover and buy a boat, on a 100k a year but your retirement is going to run out when your 75.

Check out this retirement planner to see what you need to invest to fund
your retirement.

Another important chunk of cash that I failed to include is your medical insurance and costs. To many people think they are living large on 100k and have inadequate health insurance.

most people are not going to be able to retire in the future....actually it is already happening now. This is largely due to corporations tricking the American worker into 401k and save yourself retirements allowing more profitability for shareholders and upper management.

You should expect as I do, to work until you are covered by 6 feet of Earth.

Harligen!!! I haven't been there since 1981! MMA. Is that still around? Thought I wanted to be a Marine fighter pilot. Or maybe one day go to an Academy (any of them). After 2 weeks of HELL in the summer, with sunburned ears, turned me away from Military high school, college, ...
Enjoyed the Brownsville Zoo though.!!!

I bought my status mobile from an "illegal", for 1300 bucks and it gets 40 mpg I love it. I get lots of looks and a few laugh’s when in uniform driving to the aeropurto. It’s nice to know you have money in the bank (strike funds, someday maybe).

hey doesnt mean I don't want one. Being a pilot, as you know, we love machines. Maybe I should go down and dump all my money on a z06 or maybe the new camaro when it comes out...hmmmmmmmm

can't beat 1300 bucks for a car.

i just keep mine (2) running and work on them myself and save lots of money. right now im not looking forward to replacing the gaskets on the intake manifold..oh and the oil pan..both of which are normally easy but not on my car ...

Yeah thats the probblem with vehicles some times its just cheeper to lease than drive a pos. Right now I figure if my 1300 dollar car can last six more months with little repairs then Im saving over leasing.

I think its shocking to the rampers who are flight traning when I show up in my little pile of shiI. They look at me confused thinking I make big money.

Looks like 250 thousand a year is not enough to live of either. Found this on msn and says that people barely get by on 250 a year.

Yeah thats sad, 250k is a huge jump from 100k though. But like the article said, most spend what they make, giving a false sence of wealth.

250k would enable one to have a normal lifestyle and invest to retire early.

I think it said though that only the top 1.5% of people in this country make that much.
