Check out this retirement planner to see what you need to invest to fund
your retirement.

Another important chunk of cash that I failed to include is your medical insurance and costs. To many people think they are living large on 100k and have inadequate health insurance.

most people are not going to be able to retire in the future....actually it is already happening now. This is largely due to corporations tricking the American worker into 401k and save yourself retirements allowing more profitability for shareholders and upper management.
You should expect as I do, to work until you are covered by 6 feet of Earth.

I bought my status mobile from an "illegal", for 1300 bucks and it gets 40 mpg I love it. I get lots of looks and a few laugh’s when in uniform driving to the aeropurto. It’s nice to know you have money in the bank (strike funds, someday maybe).

hey doesnt mean I don't want one. Being a pilot, as you know, we love machines. Maybe I should go down and dump all my money on a z06 or maybe the new camaro when it comes out...hmmmmmmmm
can't beat 1300 bucks for a car.
i just keep mine (2) running and work on them myself and save lots of money. right now im not looking forward to replacing the gaskets on the intake manifold..oh and the oil pan..both of which are normally easy but not on my car ...

Looks like 250 thousand a year is not enough to live of either. Found this on msn and says that people barely get by on 250 a year.

Yeah thats sad, 250k is a huge jump from 100k though. But like the article said, most spend what they make, giving a false sence of wealth.
250k would enable one to have a normal lifestyle and invest to retire early.
