Second hand experience here but I’ve known some EVY guys commute to DFW from that area with minimal hassle. Keep in mind you have a lot of airports to choose from within a 2 hr drive in that area. Might even work for MIA but I’m less sure.

Lived there from '95 till 2015.

It was great back in the day it would take you 10 minutes to make the 6 mile drive from Ft Walton to Destin. Now the same drive will take an hour and half minimum. Eventually moved to Crestview to get away from the traffic then the the Special Forces group moved in across the street from Duke Field. Last time I drove from Ft Walton to Crestview after 2 pm it was back up from Crestview all the way down the the 285 cutoff, in other words 2 hours minimum to got 20 miles.

It is a beautiful beautiful place but you couldn't pay me enough to live there. Maybe I'm just an old "get off my lawn" but its nothing like it was back in the 90s.

YMMV

That applies to lots of formerly beautiful places(America's Finest City for example)...

The issue with traffic in that area though is that there is only one east to west road. I know people who have been stuck for 6 hours because of an accident on Hwy 98. You have two choices, wait and hope they clear it up soon or turn around (if you can) and take the two hour trip to get around it. Make sure you choose wisely.

Question

It's my understanding that Tallahassee and Pensacola and Ft Walton have all had a reduction in service?
