American Eagle

Anyone out there with Eagle know what kind of equipment that new hires out of DFW are getting? What are the chances of getting the CRJ? How long are they sitting on reserve? Has the upgrade time come down? How are the work rules? Honestly, I would rather have better work rules and wait a bit longer for the upgrade than work somewhere that I hate. Plus DFW would be great since I'm from Arlington. Any info is greatly appreciated!

I would rather move back to where I am from, wait for the upgrade and have a better QOL than sit on reserve in a city I hate. You shouldn't criticize someone who is just looking for some information.

Eagle upgrade is and will continue to come down. They upgraded 79 pilots last month.
See this thread.

Good Afternoon,

Someone on one of the Comair threads mentioned that they got an interview call even with mins below airlineapps requirement. I thought the system kicked out your info if you didn't meet the mins? Anybody know if AE does that too?

Thanks in advance.

V/R,
Apollo

Right now outta DFW Expect the Saab.
CRJ or EMB about 1 year after the Saab.
Right now Less than 2 month on reserve on the Saab.
Work Rules are descent.
This last upgrade bid of 79 CA. Will be awarded in 2 weeks we will see how low it goes. Expect 20 CA vacancies MONTHLY for the next 2 years.

Dumb question, but ahhh... why do you have to sign all of your posts ? .. and what is with the "V/R" ?

I wasn't criticizing, I was just being sarcastic................. In all honesty seeming as though it is getting harder and harder to move on from a regional you gotta go where you want to live and QOL, don't go for A/C or a promise of an upgrade, I chose XJT for QOL and base in my hometown.................wouldn't have it any other way................. Good luck

JPilot77 05-25-2007 04:14 PM

At least you are going where you want to be, looking for a better qol and not chasing a peice of equipment. You want to be in dfw, 99.9% chance you are going to be on the saab for a year, the reserve time isn't too long on it there, but the upgrade, thats a whole nother story, even with the vacancies being more numerous. I hate to be pessimistic but plan on sitting in the right seat alot longer than people predict.

Killer51883 05-25-2007 05:02 PM

Since you can pick your own base you might be able to get a jet out of dfw. If you do the time on reserve will be alot longer. Right now the shortest reserve time is in san juan, less than a month, but thats not in your home town. The upgrade is going faster right now and every one is saying it will be 3-4 years by the end of the year but I'll still believe it when it happens. QOL is descent, fair work rules for the most part. Im not sure of how it is at dfw since im in sju but over all the eagle expirence hasnt been that bad.

MBM1 05-26-2007 06:23 AM

What would the chances be to get Miami, if one was to apply at Eagle? Any Idea when/where the next job fair is?

Killer51883 05-26-2007 06:26 AM

They would love you if you took MIA and the ATR. They are hurting so badly for ATR FO's. Reserve is a lot longer in MIA than in SJU but youll still be flying alot and they will probably send you down to SJU to fly some.

FL410 05-26-2007 06:39 AM

I am just finishing training right now and I really like it here. To everyone out there, this has been around for a while but you CAN choose your base. The equiptment they give you. If you want LAX then the SAAB. DFW all SAAB. ORD ERJ or CRJ (depends on the class). BOS/LGA ERJ. MIA or SJU ATR. There are about 25 people per class so I expect there to be 80 - 100 people below me when I get out of training. In LA and DFW people are getting line right out of IOE. They didn't even have enought people to cover all the lines in LAX next month. Apply, come interview and decide if you want to come here. Good luck.

MBM1 05-26-2007 06:49 AM

Great, I only hear good things about Eagle and been based in Florida is more important to me then flying a Jet. How was training for the ATR, I'm sure pretty touch. Thanks for all the information

Killer51883 05-26-2007 07:21 AM

The ATR isnt that tricky to learn. Its systems are a little differnt cause its french and they used different names for things like auto feather-they use ATPCS. The instructors are great very expirenced, helpful, and can actually teach. There is no room for error in the sim so be ready for it. You can screw up a bit on the first day of a new subject but you better know it by the second. You also have to go swimming and get into a life raft for the training and that was fun.

MBM1 05-26-2007 01:34 PM

Thank you Killer......, I also was wondering about the washout rate at Eagle. I hear at some other Regionals it seems to be high. What has it been since you started with Eagle?

Killer51883 05-26-2007 01:41 PM

well one guy in my class washed out, and an entire class of saab new hire's washed out the first few weeks i was in dallas. As far as the jet guys im not sure. But i have noticed that of the 30 ish people that were in my jan new hire class, theres about 15-20 left on the seniority list almost 6 months later. Eagle is aparently known for having really hard training. Supposedly some of the flow back american guys had issues with it.

MBM1 05-26-2007 01:53 PM

So, how would one prepare before class to have a better chance of NOT washing out?

JoeyMeatballs 05-26-2007 02:03 PM

well its has more to do with them hiring less than qualifed people, because there just doesn't seem to be that large of a pool anymore, and the SAAB is not an easy airplane systems wise.......

Killer51883 05-26-2007 02:08 PM

The bigest reason why people washed out was cause they were to busy with the dollar beers at the hotel bar than studying. If you put your time in and read your manuals pay attention in class, the basic stuff that you had to do to get through high school and college youll be fine.

MBM1 05-26-2007 02:19 PM

Thank you for all the information, I'm sure I'll be asking some more if you don't mind.

ERJ135 05-26-2007 03:30 PM

Out of the 25 in my new hire class all of us passed, some still on IOE but, checkride wise everybody made it. They were a partying group, just about everynight down by the pool drinking. It was a fun group and good times.

JPilot77 05-26-2007 05:19 PM

2 in my new hire class washed out (saab), suprisingly they overstudied, one had about 1800 hours, the other myabe 1500, they never went out either, never partied. One just had no common sense, over thought the systems too much, he was the one that had note cards for everything and pretty much argued and tried to outsmart our course instructor. The other guy had a ton of time but it was all vfr time instructing private students, he washed out of the sysm because he had no SA in the IFR environment. I do not have a ton of experience, have trained previousley at one other 121 outfit that was totally different, no sims, all done in aircraft and I can say that Eagles training is not hard at all compared to what everyone has said. I would go so far as saying you dont even note cards for limitations it is that easy, show up to class, ask questions when you dont understand something, and just dont have your head up your rear, its not that hard at all.

JPilot77 05-26-2007 05:21 PM

and I did spend alot of time in Reflections, gotta love the dollar drafts, the food was pretty bad though.

Killer51883 05-26-2007 07:27 PM

I can still taste that lousy chicken wrap and its been 3 months since ive been there. It makes me dread going back.

bornc7d 05-26-2007 08:26 PM

I dont remember seeing this information but I sure it has been told,
Does AE fly jets out of LAX or just tprops?

Both.

LAX is Saab 340 and EMJ. However, the EMJ is very senior. You will not get it straight out of training. So if you pick LAX, expect the Saab.

still asks for you to pay

BigPropz 06-02-2007 07:13 PM

the upgrades are comming only 60 away from the jet!!!!! Eagle upgrades are droping like a fat kid in dodgeball

TXav8r13 06-02-2007 07:46 PM

Your best chance of getting on the jet is choosing ORD as your base and then start bidding DFW as soon as you can. I had a friend who had one of the last picks in the class, and he got the CRJ. Seems like a lot of people want to fly the EMB.

FL410 06-03-2007 09:23 AM

I am finishing up training now. It is fairly intense and requires you to give it your all but it is a good place and the pay in training is ok, compared to other regionals. Send you stuff in and if you need an internal recommendation let me know. If you make it through IOE then I will split the $500 with you.

I am planing on applying with Eagle soon. Will ask for DFW as my base since it is within commuting distance after my reserve time is up. What sim should I expect on my interview? I have heard some say the Lear on Microsoft Flight Sim is good practice. I downloaded the Saab 340 and well as CRJ on my sim. Just wondering if it will help with the sim ride. Thanks

ERJ135 06-03-2007 09:35 AM

I had the Focker sim. I finally get to say, I flew that little Focker around. HAHE

BigPropz 06-03-2007 01:31 PM

if your going to DFW its the SAAB for u unless your like 50 then maybe they may have a jet slot

If you can still taste the food, you haven't had enough dollar drafts. :D
