My nightmare involves having to repeat my ENTIRE senior year at a service academy over some missed class... with my hard-earned rank and pension on the line. Always a relief to wake up and realize it ain't so.

I have the same nightmare once every year or two when I allow myself to go to bed with some stressor on my mind. I show up in a room with 10 minutes left to take a test that will clearly take me hours to finish and the results will decide the fate of my degree, if not career. It's just like the scene in Risky Business, which is probably the genesis for it. Ah, Rebecca DeMornay.

College was almost 30 years ago for me. Hate to break it to you, but this nightmare never ends. Enjoy. :)

In my senior year in college, I had to submit a form that was akin to a “request to graduate” or something like that. This prompted an audit of my coursework to verify I met all requirements. Once you hear back from those folks and they confirm you’re done, I’d check that box.

I remember the $30 "apply to graduate" fee.

I still wouldn’t unless you know the exact date on the diploma. Trust me when I say HR/recruiting cares that you’re not off by even a day. That’s just the way they are. They don’t have time to hear stories/explanations for errors. It’s just the way it is.This pandemic induced downturn will make hiring at the majors even more competitive with them shrinking. So you’re off by a day and correct the issue. No big deal. Except for the other thousand applicants who don’t have the error at all. I’m not trying to be an APC uptight know it all. I’m just saying to be as 100% accurate as possible and get the edge over everyone else. I was given similar advice long ago and after having gone through the major hiring processes I’m glad I listened.

Does anyone actually even look at the diploma? I’ve had people go through my transcripts with a fine toothed comb, but no one ever asked to see the diploma.

Diploma is decorative. Your transcript with show your degrees awarded.

A final transcript showing the degree conferred is the definitive standard, those can sent to an employer directly by the school or provided in a sealed envelope for security. Maybe you can also check online these days?
