Just when can you check the degree box?
Like many others at the regionals, I’m plugging away at my 4 year degree online and have just a few classes remaining. Of course, not a lot of career destination airlines are hiring, but it’s best certainly to update frequently especially if attaining a significant milestone....
So anyway....just when can you check the box? Is it after completing your final exam in your final course? After receiving your final grade in your last class, or not until actually in receipt of your diploma? To play it safe I’d say the last of those 3, but of course if allowed earlier, I’d jump on it because you just never know when the phone will ring. Thoughts? |

when your degree is issued.
when do you check the "I have a Commercial" box? |

when do you check the "I have a Commercial" box? Chances are small but not zero that when they check your documents you’ll be shown the door when your resume is dated in Oct and your degree in March the next year. Why lie? |

I'd say once you can order an official transcript since most applications require it.
Just about the worst thing you can do is jump the gun. |
Word of advice for airline apps:
All dates exact, all numbers exact. Be as squeaky clean as possible. |

Not that it matters now,
but if you have completed everything YOU do toward the degree and you’re waiting on the school to do something, I think it is reasonable to see you have a degree. |

I'd wait until I had the means of proving I had the degree.
|
if the app asks "do you have a degree" you have it, or you do not have it
it does not ask "do you have transcripts" or "is a degee soon to be issued" you have it, or you do not have it |

this question is becoming very complicated. check yes when you have the degree period, the end |
It is the date the degree is conferred.
this can vary by university |

If it's just a list of classes completed, that doesn't count until the school analyzes it all and adjudicates in writing that you meet the degree requirements. More than a few presumptive "grads" have had to return for a summer or fall session because they missed a requirement somewhere along the line. |

If the transcript actually says the degree is complete, sure.

My nightmare involves having to repeat my ENTIRE senior year at a service academy over some missed class... with my hard-earned rank and pension on the line. Always a relief to wake up and realize it ain't so. |

I have the same nightmare once every year or two when I allow myself to go to bed with some stressor on my mind. I show up in a room with 10 minutes left to take a test that will clearly take me hours to finish and the results will decide the fate of my degree, if not career. It's just like the scene in Risky Business, which is probably the genesis for it. Ah, Rebecca DeMornay.
College was almost 30 years ago for me. Hate to break it to you, but this nightmare never ends. Enjoy. :) |
In my senior year in college, I had to submit a form that was akin to a “request to graduate” or something like that. This prompted an audit of my coursework to verify I met all requirements. Once you hear back from those folks and they confirm you’re done, I’d check that box.

I still wouldn’t unless you know the exact date on the diploma. Trust me when I say HR/recruiting cares that you’re not off by even a day. That’s just the way they are. They don’t have time to hear stories/explanations for errors. It’s just the way it is.This pandemic induced downturn will make hiring at the majors even more competitive with them shrinking. So you’re off by a day and correct the issue. No big deal. Except for the other thousand applicants who don’t have the error at all. I’m not trying to be an APC uptight know it all. I’m just saying to be as 100% accurate as possible and get the edge over everyone else. I was given similar advice long ago and after having gone through the major hiring processes I’m glad I listened.

Diploma is decorative. Your transcript with show your degrees awarded.

No need for transcripts. |

when the majors start hiring again in 2025 you will have likely received your 4 year degree by then.
|
I think it would be reasonable to check degree as soon as you are sure you will graduate. It can be explained during the interview. Any reasonable person would accept this.

HR is anything but reasonable. To them it will look you lied to get an interview then changed it after. Just remember: if 19 other people in your interview didn’t have that issue then they’ll get the job. Just the way it is. |

I agree that this is all kind of silly. On all my apps I just put 31DECXX because I graduated in December. I am sure I could find the date I 'walked' but who cares. I have had 3 RJ job offers, an LLC, 2 ACMIs, and a legacy. No one has ever even mentioned my undergrad degree other than to ask how professor X is doing. Once you have confirmation that you are graduating - check the box, and put the last day of the month. Congrats on the degree!

A final transcript showing the degree conferred is the definitive standard, those can sent to an employer directly by the school or provided in a sealed envelope for security. Maybe you can also check online these days?
