Default JFK Reserve!

Does anyone have any idea how many people sit reserve for Comair at JFK? Do they fly often? Does anyone know anything about this long call reserve? How hard is it to get? Thanks!

Reserves at JFK end up doing mostly dead heading out to do CVG trips... and CVG reserves end up dead heading in to do JFK trips? Efficient? Not at all. With GSO/MCO closing I'd expect reserve time at JFK and CVG to get even longer. Right now at JFK its about 4 months. I've heard anywhere from 2-4 years at CVG.

Word is lots of guys will quit once the settlement checks come, but the cynic in me says it's all talk and the lifers aren't going anywhere. I'm wondering how many from the closing bases would quit rather than commute to CVG or JFK. And don't worry, it's not just your plan either.

My experience with reserve at Comair has been an overall good experience. I have been on reserve for 3 months and have not yet dead headed anywhere. I now hold the long call window and I fly on reserve about 75% of the time. They put me on ready reserve two to three times a month and I fly 50% of the time on ready.

From a schedulers perspective Long call windows are very difficult to schedule by. Great if you are a commuter, or dont really want to fly to much.

Long call 1 from time of notification immediatly your released to 9hrs of rest. before your able to report

Long call 2 (full retirement with pay) 12hr call out till report.
on call for two 2hr periods

neither window i believe actually requires you to be in your domecille at time of notification

not sure on exactly how many people are assigned to the base sorry

I heard 32 people on reserve right now.........both long calls sound so perfect for me seeing I have a 1:45 minute drive to work.....HOWEVER we all know NYC traffic, that could easily turn into 4 hours.....

So Comair has stopped hiring and classes? Interesting....... sign of things to come? Guess the "shortage" is going away. Get in now or prepare for a long stint as a CFI again.
