I'm a pretty conservative guy. Read that as conservative*, not always republican. I'm all for a small government that leaves me alone, separates church and state, and looks at everyone blindly regardless of race. That's hopeful optimism though.
In reality, not everyone is equal and is on the same playing field. Legislation comes through to help those less fortunate that seemingly cannot help themselves. The idea is good, but as you said, the execution is off. AA essentially says "We're going to help minorities because they're too helpless to do it themselves." When you say it like that...it's a pretty racist piece of legislation. NOW...you if you introduced AA and said "We're going to help people with the insufficient financial backings to 1. get an education 2. recieve vocational training 3. introduce them to opportunities they may not see outside of a economically repressed urban structure...it sounds a little bit more promising.
AA essentially assumes that all black people are poor and uneducated and need some extra help getting into college, getting a job, creating a life for themselves. It also assumes that all white people are rich and overpriveleged with trust funds waiting to help them coast through life. Both statements are a bunch of BS. I'm all for AA...if it was based on something other than race.
*Also, do not confuse "conservative" with a bunch of hooded retards running around in the south 30 years ago with the IQ of farm equipment.
