Eagle Gear Problems
#12
If the airplane touches the runway, you must assume it was severly damaged and may be incapable of flight, so you finish the landing. In a prop plane the props will strike first, which prett much destroys them, so a go-around would be near suicidal...you would probably gain just enough altitude to make it really hurt when you came down for good.
As the article mentioned, their flaps (and who knows what else) were mangled...a damaged jet might not clear the obstacles if it couldn't raise gear and/or flaps (to reduce drag) after a go-around.
Sounds like they may have initiated the GA due to excessive float and without knowing about the gear problem at the time...that would make more sense.

most likely it was due to excessive float that they went around, only too late to realize their gear was up still lol
i'm really curious if someone forgot the gear
(doubt it, because the gear door is open)

Looked like the nose gear doors were down? He probably initiated the GA before the skin touched pavement. I dont know how long those motors take to spool up. Any ERJ guys out there have any insight on the how the system works or spool up time of the motors?

There have been MANY times where a plane has gone around after prop strikes without the gear down. It wasn't "suicidal" as you say. But in any case, this was an ERJ.

Apparently... Crew was making an visual appr, put gear down and at some point they get a LG Lever Disagree. EICAS and RMU both show 3 greens. Crew touches down, hears a big clunk (1 of the main gear collapsing?), initiate go-around, do a fly-by and confirms 1 of the mains isnt fully down. They cant get it to extend, so they retract gear and bring it in on the belly. MX got the plane into the hangar and repeated the problem with the same results. The whole crew was very experienced and did a great job, pax deplaned with no injuries.

If the thrust isn't right around 65% coming down the last 500 feet then something is not right barring extreme wind or different flap settings than normal. Hint #1.
Hint #2 is the lack of noise and buffeting there would be.
That said, if they had three green then Embraer has some work to do.
I expect this to be an aircraft problem.
Nice that jetBlue claimed to have seen that the gear was not down but didn't do anything about it. Hopefully they meant they had seen it all after the sparks because I don't think anyone would see no wheels and not speak up.
