Default Glider time

Hey all. Haven't been around in a while.

Reandom question. Do any regionals allow prospective pilots to fully count glider time towards the total reuirement? I know skywest allows a 1/2 contribution up to 250 hours of glider or helicopter. Just wodering in case I ever someday do decide that airline flying would suck less than whatever job I wind up holding. lol

Thanks

Nothing was said about it at Mesaba, though most of mine was 'dual given.'

FWIW I was offered interviews at Pinnacle and ASA 5 months ago...they counted all my 130 hours glider toward total, but a portion of that was dual given as well. Honestly I think their is a lot of people out there that really appreciate the glider time, but just the same there's plenty of others that think it doesn't mean squat. It's still on my resume though.

Air Force Academy study determined USAFA CFIGs consistantly placed higher in UPT classes.

Generally no because they specify their flight experience in terms of fixed-wing airplane time and gliders are not airplanes as you know. As was mentioned, SKW is pretty good about giving credit, and there may be a very few others. You will probably need to check the web pages of companies you might be interested in.

What I want to know is who gives credit for lighter-than-air time, other than Goodyear. I've got 400 hours of that stuff and it's just sitting there, not doing me any good.

Probably nobody. But there are some big cargo/heavy lift airships under development, so you might have a leg up on that someday.

Check the websites. Last time I cheked, TT referred to the total time in your logbook. I happen to log my glider time in that very logbook. ME time refers to multi-engine time, which, I'm arfraid, gliders won't qualify for. Some carriers do, however, require certain amounts of instrument time, but honestly the only ones that make a discrimination about glider time are the ones that mention it. IE Skywest. If there are PUBLISHED hiring mins that specify fixed wing airplane, I wouldn't mind seeing them to clear up what I've been thinking for years.
