Default Florida domciles? Gulfstream??

Hey everyone- looking for some info on Gulfstream airlines. I'm currently on the CRJ200 and commuting to Detroit from Tampa (not an easy thing). I hear that Gulfstream is hiring and has a domicile in Tampa. Any thoughts on them? Do they hire from outside their PFT school? What are the times for upgrade there and what are the chances of getting hired as a street captain? QOL?

I dont want to take a step backward in my career by going somewhere where I make less than what I do now, but commuting is starting to take its toll on me. The appeal of living where I want to live in domicile is the real reason I'm considering it. Anyone know of any other outfits that are hiring in the area?

Thanks for the help!

Isn't that the place you have to pay to get into the right seat? If so, thats just wrong. Stay away from that place.

...They were hiring street captains a little while ago. I'm pretty sure that you don't have to pay for your training then...

Drop them an email and see what they have to say???

As long as you have the ATP mins, you will get hired as a street captain. I think they are still hiring for that.

Hey ace I know several guys that came from the 'stream and moved on to 9E then went back as CA's cuz they hated the commute. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Hey Rook- did they seem to enjoy flying at Gulfstream? I am wondering what the quality of life would be like there as opposed to 9E. I dont mind flying a prop if I can be living in domicile and have a decent schedule.

Any other thoughts on Gulfstream?

I'm pretty sure their (the pilots who left) QOL is better than at 9E. But this is only because a lot of them live in South FL. I have no idea what the schedules are like. My opinion is if you have a chance to get PIC time quickly and G-stream is the answer, then have at it. One guy I know went from 1900 CA to 767 int'l at CAL and that was his first jet. Good luck to you.

The QOL is like most regionals...they will take advantage of you but we are all in the same boat. But as stated by another post if you are AT HOME, its as good as it gets. And also you now have jet time so if you have 1500 hours they will hire you off the street as a capt. Get your year in an move on. Hope this helps. But if you dont have ATP mins they have never hired an F/O.

Two guys from my former employer went to Gulfstream. Both were relatively junior at ACA, neither was able to get any PIC time. Plenty of turbine SIC. Well, when the human waste impacted the oscillating enviormental control device, they went on down to Florida.

They sucked it up, one is now at FedEx, the other flying 74's on a contract gig for JALWays.
