Hey all. I know this has been asked before, but I want anyones 1st hand experience if they have it.
I was arrested about 9 years ago (17 years old) for possession of a controlled substance and then again for assault. Stupid kid crap really.
I grew up. I went to college, I got my pilots licenses. Now I am flying 135 cargo. I want to got to AWAC, but what are the chances of them saying No thanks when I tell them about my arrests. They called today but just left a message. I will call them back, and tell them the truth, But seriously, Whats the deal....These are my only two arrests...9 years ago, but my driving record blows too, No DUI's ...just speeding and whatnot...
Should I just forget about it and keep in the 135 business? If anyone knows anything about my situation, thanks in advance.

Go to the job fairs they have. Have you been sending in your resume?

 

Sure you do...there are folks with 2 DUIs here. I don't know for sure, but I'd presume your recent driving history likely will be a bigger knock against you than what happened a decade ago.

Be honest and upfront when they ask...only way to know for sure is call them back! Good luck!

 

If you were convicted for assualt that probably precludes your employment by a 121 carrier for ten years, but it may depend on the exact crime. Download the TSA background questionaire from some airlines web site and read exactly what it says about assualt. This only applies to convictions, not arrests. Depending on the circumstances of the assualt, it may or may not cause you long-term employability problems...big difference between a simple bar fight and mugging some old lady...

A single controlled substance possesion issue that long ago should not be a problem as long as you have been clean ever since. If you were actually dealing drugs then you are hosed for 121, probably for life.

I would agree that the recent driving record could be a problem, especially in light of your past record. It kind of says that you grew up some, but maybe not enough. Be prepared to explain everything honestly and say that you are committed to not getting any more tickets...maybe tell a story about how you almost caused a wreck by speeding and had a wake-up call. They will want to see committment to behavior change in your case.

Also slow down immediately...a year or two with a clean record will speak volumes. You will have to be extra careful...I can afford a 75-in-a-65 county revenue ticket but you cannot due to your recent record (at least for a few years).
