My first flight ever was in a C-172, from KFCM (Flying Cloud Municipal) to KMSP. As soon as we took off, tracon gave us an immediate slot to land on runway 35 if we could hustle over.
It was funny because as we swept down over highway 494 and onto the threshold of 35, we could hear the disgruntled FO of the DC-9 waiting to take off at the other end of the runway (on 35 you land heading north and take off to the south) complain and ask us to speed things up. We turned off onto the first taxiway, and the Disgruntled DC-9 roared past us with vengeance. So was my first flight experience.

Ha! Ain't that the truth.

Pan Am Student: uh arser wu wu nya po uh owfa weekwess uh prakuhiss IRS approh. (translation: Archer 119PA request practice ILS approach)

PHX Approach: Unable. Call back in 20 minutes and speak English.

Yeah- but how many of you guys have done stop and go landings in a C152 at DCA?

:D

Used to do the "river tour" with my students (pre 9/11) when I taught out of Manassas, VA (KHEF). Depart to the east, contact Wash Approach and ask for direct DCA, up the Anacostia River, direct Fedex Field, then southwest via the Beltway (right past Andrews AFB) back to HEF at 2500'

About 75% of the time, the DCA controllers would ask us approaching the field if we wanted to do a touch-and-go or stop-and-go. Always fun to squeeze in for a bounce before the flight past the monuments!
