Apparently so does management. During our 1998 negotiations NWA negotiators wanted you to slide to the year as you upgrade. Example if you were a 5 year F/E and upgraded to F/O you went to 1st year F/O....5 more years as F/O and upgrade to CA you moved to 1st year CA pay. So in this example you could be a 10 year employee and be a 1st year CA pay....Obviously that was a non-starter!

There are a couple of carriers (mostly supplimental), that send their captains to year one pay.
