Default Base Changes

I've searched through a bunch of posts but couldn't really find an answer I was looking for. Once you get hired with a regional how easy is it to change bases? Right now I am looking at Republic and they have a ton of bases so I was wondering if you don't get based where you want how long do you have to wait until you will be able to change bases? Also do you even have a say in your base or is it wherever they want you?

Republic (RW) bases: PHL/DCA/PIT/IND/DEN.

I believe there you are assigned a base, and then you can try to go somewhere else via a bid. If you want ORD/CMH/ATL, those are Shuttle (S5) bases.

Hope this helps...

You can change bases anytime a standing bid comes out. Although I don't work for republic I would assume that they probably run one every month.
As far as if you have to stay there, the answer is no. On your offtime you can stay anywhere you want. I'm sure you've heard the term commuting before right? Those are the pilots that choose to live some where besides their base. This choice definately cuts into your off time but if moving to your domicile is not an option then this may prove to be necessary. hope that helps.

When I said Republic I meant RAH as a whole. Sorry. Chautauqua would probably be one of my top choices. They have bases all over the place. Do you know about how long it would be before you could move bases?

Thanks for the info

Like I said you can change as often as you like. Just change your bid and if you can hold it you will be awarded it within a month or so. Many ppl get a different base before they can get out of training at some companies.
Since I don't work for RAH though I don't know how long to hold any of the bases.

here at RAH, the time it takes to switch bases after your initial assignment (which gives little to no consideration to your preferences) depends on how senior the base you want is. You can have a standing bid on file from day one for the base that you want. As soon as your seniority can hold an opening in that base, you will be awarded it. For example, many of the recent newhires have gone to buffao and left after one month because they wanted STL or CVG, which are pretty junior. For the people holding out for SDF or IND, they will be waiting a few more months.

You will be awarded a base early in training (it will be a junior base)...and since training takes several months, you will probably have an opportunity to bid a different base before you complete training.

However whether or not you can hold the base you want depends TOTALLY on how senior that base is. You need to decide specifically which base(s) you would be interested in, and ask us that question.

If you want to move from one junior base to another junior base, you can probably do that within a month or two.

Early in training? Not at Republic right now. We are about to finish ground school this week, no bases. Classes ahead of us in the sim don't have bases. Heard rumor of people in IOE without bases. We are going XJT style recently....
