Default Colgan Base?

To any of the Colganites out there...

Is Manassas a pilot base? I saw online that it is a maint base so I'm a little unsure as to whether or not it's a pilot base and if a pilot can live there.

Thanks to all.

Yes it's a pilot base. And always will be. At the moment it's fairly senior for Captains, but not for FO's. However at Colgan senior usually means no more than a couple of months wait to get the base.

WEACLRS,
Sorry, but is it a base for the the Beech as well? Just realized I didn't specify that earlier. Heard that is all they are hiring for in the next few months.

Spoken like a man who has completely ignored the history of this industry.

Nothing is forever my friend. Especially when it comes to airlines.

With any Colgan base but Manassas I would agree. But as long as Colgan exists (yes I know...see above), I assure you Manassas will be a base. It's the main Mx base, corporate headquarters, and home to the Colgan family. It ain't going anywhere...

Also one other point. The Colgan's got burnt once when the Senator sold the original airline to Presidential...only to see Presidential go belly up two years later. The Colgan's are fiercely independent and hard-nosed and I don't see them selling the airline to anyone...just yet. The five kids have the airline now and they are a pretty determined group. Anything can happen of course...

No it's not. And no the Beech is not all we are hiring for. We'll be hiring for the Saab too. 3/4 of the company's a/c are Saabs, so only a few will be hired into the Beech. What you may have heard is that we'll have to hire a few Beech "street" captains. The hiring of captains by majors and continuing expansion have left us a little short of FO's on the Beech who meet the mimimum upgrade times for insurance proposes.

I'll be in Manassas in a few weeks. How would I go about getting a tour of Colgan? I don't have anywhere near the hours / ratings to apply but want to check out a airline operation...

This is an innocent question from someone interested in learning...Don't worry about me being a terrorist...I'm in the USAF and will be in town to meet friends working at the Pentagon and White House...

Thanks,
LA

Nice idea. And it's not that the folks in Massasas aren't good people, they are. But I doubt you could be given the time of day. Mostly because they really aren't set up to do tours. Also because of FAA security requirements and the way HEF is set up, I don't think you would be allowed past the lobby. I'll ask if they do tours...
