The folks running SkyWest have done an enviable job of running a large business by ANY standard. I understand the need for the pilots to feel entitled to some of that money. I'm sure we'd take whatever we could get .

A strong, profitable SkyWest is good for the industry, and the pilots who work (yes, work) for SkyWest. But, many of us are owners (stockholders) also (which we purchase at a discount from market price). ALPA didn't get us that discount. We pilots also make a bonus based on profits (among other things). ALPA didn't get us that, either.

It must be that ever ALPA carrier has these features (that we already have)?

The ALPA president makes what the highest paid member (captain) makes. If he is making as much as you say ALPA wouldn't have a problem with any organizing drive.

So, his salary has some connection to the success (or lack of success) to the orgainzing drive? I'm guessing that the implication here is that joining ALPA means big fat pay checks for it's member pilots. I'll tell that to the Mesa (ALPA) pilots. Perhaps you can clarify?

Yes, they contract the things that make sense. I propose the same for SkyWest.

Thanks for making that very valuable point.

All the best,

Tony

Alpa won't pass, they couldn't even get more than 55% of the cards after the 12 month drive and they had to start sending out new cards because the old ones were starting to expire. Too many people from other alpa carriers came to skywest to get rid of alpa, their last airlines had alpa and alpa had failed them. There is NO reason for alpa at skywest, we are the best regional out there and our high mins show that as well as our W2s which are higher than 9 out of 10 of the other RJ airlines.

Like I said before, It won't pass. There is nothing wrong at skywest, only a few crybabies who nitpick because some ASA or AWAC pilot tell them too because they hope a weaker skywest will mean more flying for their airlines.

The folks promoting this brand of union at SkyWest are quite vocal in their support. Thank goodness for free speech !

However, I agree with you, the SILENT MAJORITY, who largely are just happy doing their jobs and cashing their paychecks will either NOT vote, or vote against this union.

This, of course, doesn't mean that things are perfect here. They never will be, with or without union brand A.

I've had WAY too many former ALPA members, and current ones, tell me that it would be a mistake to bring brand A here.

Vote no.

How many open time trips do you have to pick up in order to achieve those high W2s you are speaking of?

The high mins comment is off target too. Skywest has a distinct advantage which leads to higher minimums. It's one of only two regionals with a large west coast operation, and the other regional hasn't been hiring all summer. If you live west of the Rockies, Skywest has been the top choice pretty much by default.

Other regionals have rigs, pay protection, profit sharing, and operational bonuses. The difference between them and Skywest is that the other regionals have it in a legally binding contract, while Skywest pilots are at the mercy of JAs continued benevolence.

Don't know if it is accurate or not, but just adding it to the debate...

I've changed my mind.... ALPA is the GREATEST (for the folks with their hands in the cookie jar).

That's funny. Keep in mind, these are the figures that ALPA produced and sent to the government.

I'm sure they left out the hotel suites, limos, "hostesses", bar tabs, and other sundry items that they enjoy.

Look at what JA makes

Compensation Committee recommended and the Board established Jerry C. Atkin's
annual base salary at $280,000 and established guidelines for the payment of an
annual bonus award, based on the Company's net income and also subject to
achieving other non-financial objectives. After the end of fiscal 2001, the
Compensation Committee awarded Mr. Atkin a $282,066 bonus based on the Company's
exceptional performance during the year. During fiscal 2001, the Compensation
Committee also awarded to Mr. Atkin options to purchase up to 208,000 shares of
Common Stock, based on the criteria described above.
