Something tells me there will be lots of takers of voluntary furlough or a buyout/early out if one is offered.
I was given a WARN letter back during the '05 furlough, but enough people senior to me took voluntary furlough, so I kept my job. I ended up being THE junior pilot in CVG and stayed that way for 4 months or so until they started recalling. I didn't get displaced to GSO or JFK. In fact, lots of pilots took voluntary furlough and save lots of junior pilots' jobs. I think it will be the same this time around. |

Hope so... any idea when or if they are going to reassign the 70/90 FO diff classes? Mine for next month just says TBD instead of the previous start date of the 11th....
They will probably have a better idea when they announce the head count reduction they need, then see if there are any voluntary takers. Then they will start to furlough from the bottom of the list until they have the number they need. Depending on how everyone's standing bid is (which is impossible to know) will determine what training events get triggered (downgrades, transition to 50 or 70/90, base transfers, etc...) There are just way too many variables to know that. I doubt even Crew Forecasting and Planning even knows at this point. |

Dammit... I was supposed to go through differences training next month on the 11th and now it says TBD... I guess that's French for "Its never going to happen"... anyone know whats up with classes next month? I guess its ground and sim recurrent on the 50 for me in Aug...
The 900's are not coming from Freedom as previoulsy thought. Nothing is coming until the Mesa deal goes to court which I was told is in 09'. One thing to keep in mind for th junior guys is their jobs could be saved by early outs and voluntary furoulghs. From what I was told the early out package is pretty lucrative. Until then, things are gonna get really ugly and depressing here for awhile. Seems like an ongoing saga the last 4 years, but what can we do. MANY MANY pilots have lost their jobs this year most in a matter of weeks. As my sticker says, "Get in, sit down, shut up and HANG ON"! LOL! Another roller-coaster ride is on its way! By the way, good seeing the other day. Take care |

That's the one of the major problems with this company! Those crusty captains who've been here since the Banderante was the primo a/c here at Comair. They're fat and happy right were they are and they're the main reason our operating costs are so high.

Are you freakin kidding me??!! What a ridiculous and childish and inaccurate statement. If it weren't for those very Captains, you wouldn't have a job at all. This place may have their tools, but I totally respect and thank the pilot group who were here for the strike and before which made Comair the best place to come. Sadly MANAGEMENT and Delta management (not the pilot group) have made the worst strategy decisions I have seen in awhile.

I agree with you, however H46Bubba isn't a pilot. I think he's MX.
Btw... I don't agree with H46Bubba. |
The "seniors" certainly have every right to be here and then some, and they have been through a lot, but from a financial perspective they are making the airline very top heavy. Their salaries are not even that much either but when we are supposedly competing with very junior based company (i.e. Mesa) it hurts our competitive edge. It is also very bad kool-aide and definitely not the only reason we are suffering right now. Contracts (not ours) seem to have a lot to do with that right now.
