CRJ Type Rating
Just curious how the CL-65 Type worked.
Say I get typed on the CRJ-900. What else does that cover? The 200? The Challeger Jet? Surely the -700 right? |
You would get a CL65 type, not series specific. Then you would get differences training for the 200. 700, and 900 series. The 737 type works under the same principles.
|
Then it's the same type but training for each series is different. So if trained on the -900 you couldn't jump straight into a -700 without more training?
|
They all have a common type, the 700 and 900 are identical. The CRJ 200 and the challenger have a mostly common interface (to the 7 and 9) but some of the systems are quite different. The amount of differences training and checking is going to depend on your particular airline and the POI. Technically it is a common type rating.
My first airline required 6 months on the crj200 before they let you fly the 700 and then a differences ground school and PC in the sim. My current airline has a 1 day differences ground school and 1 sim check which covers you for both the 700 and 900. IOE can be done in any of the variants (or all 3 even) and you are good to go. |
Interesting.
Thank you, that answers my question. |
The CRJ (CL65) and Challenger (CL601/CL604) require different type ratings.
|
Someone can obviously correct me if I'm wrong on this but I believe the common type only works one direction. I think you have to get the -200 first, and then you can get qualified -700/-900 through differences. I do not believe you can get -700/-900 and then do differences in the -200.

why not? thats more of a company thing. mesa sends their new hires through initial ioe in the 900 sometimes

Yep it sucks flying as a senior FO in the -700/-900 and then going to Upgrade w/the Sim-Check in the -200 Yikes!
Bid -200 trips for a few months prior to upgrade!! |
