Are newhire FO's getting the 170 these days ....or I guess a better question would be what is a typical class drop of acft assignments look like.

RVCguy44 09-18-2007 01:56 PM

of course newhires are getting the 170/175. all the FOs that are on those airplanes are "newhires" because we can't transfer from the 145 to the 170 (or vice versa) as an FO. If anything, from this point on we will be doing more hiring for the 170/175 than for the 145. This is because all of our new deliveries are 170/175s, while we begin to reduce (and eventually phase out) the 135/140/145.

Is all the ground school in INDY and the sims?

ScaryKite 09-18-2007 04:03 PM

indoc for CHQ is in Indy, RW and s5 hold indoc at FSI in STL. Simulator for CHQ is either STL, or Houston. Simulator training for the 170 is in STL and here lately some people have been going to Paris. Have fun!

SharkyBN584 09-19-2007 08:25 AM

170 Sims also end up in Canada sometimes (YUL I think). Either way, it's a free-for-all on the 170 since that's where all the growth is at. Some guys are upgrading to the 170 in two years now...but they'll be on reserve forever.

cbire880 09-19-2007 11:00 AM

Yup, 170 RW newhire here just about to finish IOE. You'll know when you are offered the job what certificate and aircraft you are assigned to.. Standard warning though, all FO's are paid the same. The only real reason to pick one over the other is bases near where you want to live.

ERJcaptain 09-27-2007 07:22 AM

Recently announced we are replacing all 16 170's at Delta with 175's. 10 of the 170's will be added to the United system and the other 6 will go to the Frontier operation on the Republic certificate. So hiring into the 170/175 will be robust for the forseeable future. The 175's for Delta start coming next year. Also we continue to take delivery's of th 175 for Republic Airlines(USAir). Due to 145 upgrades there are some new hires going to the 145.

I also just heard that we have secured some sim time in Orlando with JetBlue's sims.

Just got the call and offered Shuttle FO class date in Nov..... wonder if ATL is even a possibility......

rytheflyguy 09-28-2007 11:25 AM

Congratulations. Most junior ATL FO has a 4/9/07 hire date, so you may be able to hold it after a few months.

thepotato232 09-28-2007 07:28 PM

A friend of mine just got E170 FO on Brickyard. Any idea how long it would take to hold a DEN base?

cbire880 09-28-2007 07:36 PM

Expect no sooner than Spring to get to DEN as a RW new hire. Expect PHL out of training unless you are the old dude in class.

HercDriver130 09-28-2007 11:18 PM

LOL i will be the old dude in the class...but with Shuttle.....:)

cbire880 09-29-2007 05:06 AM

After a little research, looks like S5 dudes are going to all of the bases. Big batch of recent new hires(Aug of this year) got ATL.

jsky26 09-29-2007 08:25 AM

How does ORD look out of training for a Shuttle guy?

Junior guy for Oct was a 7/5/07 hire. Very little movement in ORD for a long time, but it seems that the FOs there are starting to be able to hold upgrade spots, so the movement should increase.

HercDriver130 09-29-2007 02:16 PM

I will cross my fingers for ATL.....LOL

Iah/crp

How does CRP or IAH in the CRJ look for a new hire?

HercDriver130 09-29-2007 10:36 PM

That would be CHQ... they told us at the interviews they are only hiring to the pool for that cert probably thru the end of the year at least. Just what KD said...dont kill the messenger.

ghilis101 09-29-2007 10:39 PM

congrats herc, youll be the big man on campus there. hopefully youll get the call from a major soon.

HercDriver130 09-29-2007 10:49 PM

LOL...yea I was 18 years older than the next oldest guy... he was 26 ....
I am just greatfull RAH wasnt put off by my time away from the cockpit....

Yea really was kinda hoping the boys at connie would call but I have always thought that things happen for reasons in life so I am willing for a bit to see where this leads.

Thanks for all the info you passed my way concerning connie...it still may help me some day.

ghilis101 09-29-2007 11:10 PM

anytime, always willing to help, still dont get why you didnt get the call since you are way more qualified than me. must be the timing since theyve probably stopped interviewing for the year.

I really like RAH they are a classy operation with extremely professional crews.

How long are people sitting on reserve before holding a line?

btwissel 09-30-2007 07:36 AM

i will hold a line in November. I was a S5 7/05/07 hire

missed a line for October by 1 person (guy 2months older than me in my class has a line)

Is it a similar time sitting reserve at Republic and Chautauqua? Also, how much do people normally fly while on reserve?

i flew 9 days in september! Its awesome... the paycheck sucks, but sleeping in on my reserve days and beeing home this much is really great!

cbire880 09-30-2007 01:14 PM

I missed holding a line in October for RW by being one of the younger guys. Two of the top three in my class are holding 16 days off in PHL for October. Assuming the next class can bid for Nov, I should hold a line then.

KiloAlpha 09-30-2007 01:37 PM

Just one more reason why I hate Philly.. senior FO's in PIT are only getting 14 days off with the majority getting 12-13

TankerBob 10-02-2007 03:47 PM

How hard is it to get PIT? I got a call for an interview, and my guard unit is there. It would be nice to be out of the same place. No commute would be great

KiloAlpha 10-03-2007 03:09 AM

ghilis101 10-03-2007 03:13 AM

oops that question was actually meant for tanker bob, about his guard unit in pit. sorry about that i read the wrong post

sigtauenus 10-03-2007 04:45 AM

HercDriver, how much time do you have out of the cockpit? Are you just building currency time?

TankerBob 10-03-2007 08:04 AM

Yeah we are the STEEL callsigns. PA ANG

Kilo - Thanks, thats what I like to hear!

US Airways to Reduce Pittsburgh Service in Early 2008
Oct. 3, 2007
US Airways (NYSE: LCC) today announced it plans to reduce mainline flying in January from 31 to 22 daily flights, focusing on customers’ preferred destinations, as the airline continues to maximize the financial stability of its Pittsburgh operation. As part of the new schedule, regional flying to smaller cities is expected to be reduced from 77 to 46 daily flights. Most of the expected reductions for smaller cities reflect decisions that we expect to be made by independent regional carriers that develop their own plans and schedules. These carriers have not finalized their schedules so the overall level of Express flying may change.

TankerBob 10-03-2007 03:24 PM

Ok thats not what I like to hear!

HercDriver130 10-03-2007 04:10 PM

Sig.... hum.. not sure how to answer you. Yes.. I was out of the cockpit professionally for over 10 years. Your comment about currency?...not sure what you are asking... but I am current IFR, etc, both ME and SE....

If what you are asking is if I plan on staying at RAH.... I cant answer that but I will say that I have never cared if I flew the biggest plane or the fastest plane or made crap loads of money. I flew the Herc for gods sake and that was a freaking awesome plane to fly, but she was neither fast, or sleek nor did we garner much respect from our BIG MAC ( C-5 , C-141, C-5 ) brothers.....( yes the C-17 was still in testing when i left the AF ) .... so I could easily see myself staying at one place. on top of that im 44 and have had some life changing experiences in the past few years.... flying and a decent QOL is what I require...and to work for a company that in some way maybe perhaps if thats possible gives a damn about its workers. I flew for nearly 3 years for AE ( when it was an all Tprop op ) on the ATR and there was NO respect from AMR or the AA pilots for the Eagles....

So I guess if your question is why is a guy like me coming to RAH...because they have a good reputation and because of some of the aforementioned reasons. The grass is not always greener on some other seniority list....if that makes any sense.

Not sure I have answered your question but if not PM and I will elaborate further.

Killer51883 10-03-2007 08:10 PM

kilo alpha do you know what that means to the 170 base here in pit???
