First, I applaud your courage and resolve. That truly is a horrible accident.

The reverse thrust locking mechanism is based off a solenoid switch. It is a protection in the airplane that won't allow reverse thrust to be added until the cascade doors are deployed. To deploy reverse thrust, you pull on the thrust levers to the gate, wait a second or two, and then the locks release and you can pull back all the way.

Not to mention part of that system is auto-retard in the instance of an uncommanded T/R on takeoff which will pop your D@mn hand off if you're not ready for it...

I remember reading the thread here, when you first posted it. From looking at the date, I had just finished initial training at ExpressJet, myslef, and was waiting at home for IOE to start. At the time I didn't feel I knew enough to give you any useful advice, or opinions.

I just realized that I have been sitting around here, feeling a little bit sorry for myself, since I was furloughed, a couple of weeks ago. (The industry outlook sucks, I'm not making any money, not much time at home etc., etc.)

Then, I then re-read this thread, and your story from AOPA. I have to say that it has truly inspired me, and renewed my own committment. I wish you the best of luck. I hope I have a chance to meet you, and perhaps even fly with you some day. If you are ever in PHX, drop me a PM and I'll buy you a beer.

Reading the artical and this thread made me think... no matter how bad we think we have it at times, someone else had it worst and overcame it. I wish everyone a lifetime of safe flights and thanks for sharing your story Logan.
