How is this possible?

so thee other day im talking to a frined at an old fbo where I used to work who just left ATP and we're just you know ... churnin the crap and he tells me about this guy who graduated the program instructed for two months left for continental express, expressjet and after two years got hired by continental and is on the 737.

This guy walked into ATP with 0 hours leaves after five months and gets to a major in no time. Some of you expressjet guys may know him.

There have been more than a couple FOs here at ExpressJet that have gotten on with CAL before ever upgrading on the RJ. Just get a couple hundred hours of turbine 121 time, show you can pass a training program and ride daddy's coat tails right into a 737 cockpit at CAL. Disgusting but not unheard of.

If he gets furloughed before he upgrades at CAL he'll be up ****s creek without TPIC. It's nothing to be envious of.

Why is it disgusting. Don't hate somebody because they took advantage of the resources they have available. Life isn't fair. Some people are born into opportunity or wealth, others have to earn it. Once you realize that, you'll learn to fend for yourself and make your own opportunities happen.

If you can honestly say that you wouldn't have done the same thing if the opportunity presented itself, then you can call it disgusting. Otherwise you're hypocritical.

As slice said, there are some potential downsides to a fast track career. Will it mean that this person (or others like him) won't succeed? Not necessarily, but don't hate them for succeeding as a result of networking, luck, or some other factor. Personally, I find it impressive.

In the case of CAL, he may not have too much to worry about...737 upgrade is going faster than RJ upgrade at a lot of regionals.

Hopefully, he's smart enough to bid the quick upgrade.

I was BS'ing with a 757 CAL Capt. at the bar a few weeks ago on an overnight. She told me that they are huuuge on nepetism. if you have family members who work there, its very likely that you'll get hired on before you meet the requirements. i know a guy who did 2 years at eagle...never upgraded and hes on the 737 at CAL.

You aren't required to have turbine PIC. I'll be sending my resume there soon enough. It's a gamble on what happens if they start furloughing people but sometimes you just gotta take it in stride. I want my next job to be my last but we'll see what cards life feels like dealing me. Hell who knows I could be overseas by then flying for someone by then anyway.

I agree. I think any of us would do the same thing if we could. I know I would. I don't understand why you would hate somebody for being lucky.
