Republic Hiring

I'm looking at working for a regional with a base out of Philadelphia. I'm looking at Republic right now and noticed that they are associated with Chatauqua and Shuttle America...would I interview with a specific one or just Republic? And if it's just one interview and I did get hired would I get to choose??? I'm just a little confused so any input would help...Thanks alot.

Joeshmoe 10-05-2007 07:22 AM

You'll interview at Republic Holdings headquarters in IND. They will ask what aircraft and base you want but THEY decide what ticket and what aircraft you end up on based on what they need

Pailaka_o_Kauai 10-05-2007 08:54 AM

What Joe said. When I got hired, they gave me a choice between a Chautauqua ERJ-145 class and a Shuttle America ERJ-170 class. It all depends on what the company needs at the time.

Do they usually give you a couple choices or will they just put everyone they hire on one certificate?

HercDriver130 10-05-2007 10:05 AM

I interviewed on 9/26 and we were told they were hiring for the pool at CHQ and class dates for S5 and RW. I was offered S5.

jacksjj 10-05-2007 10:08 AM

Just go get hired first. Worry about that before you worry about all the other stuff.

After you get the job, you can tell them you would prefer RP so you can get that base. Either they will give it to you, or they wont. It worked for me. We need people BAD right now... and the odds are in your favor.

Or, you can go the traditional route and get whatever they give you and wait to upgrade on a particular certificate. Either way, good luck. I love it here.

My friend just got hired into republic into the 170..the 170 is junior there..and they're short.

WARNING: Can be a misleading statement

HercDriver130 10-06-2007 08:15 AM

Well why dont you expound on your Warning KA.

HercDriver130 10-06-2007 08:47 AM

Just noticed today on RAH website that they have posted 800/100 as hiring minimums.

Saying the 170 is junior for new hires may lead people to believe they actually have a choice of aircraft. Also, regarding junior captain date of hire, the 170 is the most SENIOR.

ToiletDuck 10-06-2007 09:01 AM

The aircraft you are FO in doesn't matter when becoming a captain. You bid for the vacancies. You can take the quicker upgrade and bid for a CRJ or wait longer and take the 170. If you aren't wanting to stay a lifer and want your PIC to get out then taking the 170 might not be the best idea.

HercDriver130 10-06-2007 09:01 AM

I figured that was what you meant.... but just thought you should elaborate for the masses.

they have dropped hiring mins ...again....according to the website.

KiloAlpha 10-06-2007 09:06 AM

Take my posts with a grain of salt, I've only been here for about 5 months now.

Yea, I just saw the new minimums... My biggest concern is the status of a soon to be closed mainline Airways base

HercDriver130 10-06-2007 09:14 AM

I saw that blurb on PIT........

SharkyBN584 10-06-2007 10:23 AM

It's all a crapshoot. If you want PHL you gotta be a RP 170 driver. Anything else and you'll have to wait to upgrade there. They're hiring into everything. You can always ask for a specific certificate or airplane, and you can always pass on a class date to wait for something on that certificate...but it could be dangerous. Do what you gotta do. AWAC also has a PHL base if I'm not mistaken. My friend there is pretty happy.

yeah i would concur with that. Republic will most likely drastically shrink or close PIT and open a CLT base, and they will do most of the airways flying from PIT and CLT and eventually LGA. That sucks because PIT is a cool town and I know there are a lot of pilots that are here wanting to eventually end up there.

KiloAlpha 10-06-2007 11:34 AM

In Airways' grand plan for PIT posted on theHub, "controlled" regional departures will increase from 26 to 27. Republic is a "controlled" regional.

flyingfalcon401 10-06-2007 01:02 PM

So with the "controlled" regional departures increasing does this mean republic isnt going anywhere for a while?

KiloAlpha 10-06-2007 01:16 PM

Who knows, Republic hasn't officially or unofficially commented on the Pittsburgh base... plus I usually start a trip out with a DH and dont see PIT again until the last leg of the last day.. so ya

Are they pretty stiff on those mins? I could have swore that I say someone say that they have people with less time in their class... But I read so many threads I could easily be mistaken.

I applied online (625/205) and there was an auto response telling me to kick rocks till I had the 800.

Should I keep trying by faxing it and/or mailing it?

I have a friend that is a Capt with them. My understanding is that they are pretty firm on those minimums except for two exceptions:
University of Purdue Aviation grads and ATP graduates that have taken their RJ program seem to be able to interview with 500/100. I know for fact that some guys I went to ATP got hired at Republic with less than 800.

That's probably what I saw somewhere.

twigs 02-27-2008 11:45 AM

What equipment type is in DEN, and how senior is that base?

170s for Frontier on the Republic certificate, from what I've heard it is the most senior on the RW side.

How could passing on a certificate class be dangerous dangerous? Could you end up on nothing at all?

Yeah, you might get the take it or leave it response. Generally, if you want RW right now you will be safe. Most of the growth is still there. Of course, that's where the 175s are so, upgrades are the longest if you don't want to change bases.

Maybe they'll call ya back...maybe they won't. I've heard both have happened in the past. Not to mention you're giving up seniority. Right now, delaying class one month generally puts you about 50 spots further down the list.

SD3Dog 02-28-2008 03:04 AM

When they offered me the job into CHQ on the 145 I asked about Shuttle and her thoughts of getting another date. She didn't take to kindly to the idea so I made a quick 180 letting her know that I was very happy to take the CHQ 145 class date. I wasn't offered a choice. As it ends up I think I will be much better off with what they offered. They have 60 E145s and several bases that work well for getting back to where I have family (BNA) when I get some time to travel "home". I think they know best what will be good for them and you. (obviously in that order) I hope to get STL or CVG asap and get an apartment when I can so I don't have to commute. Seems like most of the Republic pilots are happy with their jobs from what I have read.

jelloy683 02-28-2008 06:54 AM

Is it pretty easy to switch bases out of training? Or are you locked in for a while?

MD11 02-28-2008 07:32 AM

certificate choice

If you get an interview with Republic, be careful with requesting a certain certificate...
When I asked for the CHQ cert, laser beams shot out of the HR interviewer's eyes and the tone of interview changed. I guess if you want a job, you better not have any personal preferences!
Also, If you have any knowledge over and above a regular pilot, keep that in your back pocket. I have been working on jets for 20 years and one of the interviewers asked me if I thought this could be a problem in the cockpit having more technical knowledge than the the captain. I was a little mystified with that question.
Anyway, I did not get offered a job so maybe this experience could help one of you.

well what did you say? that actually is a really good question!

130flyer 02-28-2008 11:50 AM

How long from interview to class date now? Also, how long is training? I thought it used to be posted on their site as 8 wks, but can't find it now.

HercDriver130 02-28-2008 04:28 PM

2 weeks to 2 months from interview to class... just depends... training is variable depending on IOE..... but 8 weeks is good guess.... 10 if they have scheduling problems or lots of cnx during ioe.....

I interviewed 2/18, class date 3/25. One of the other guys who interviewed with me got moved into the 2/28 class, but he was already available when he interviewed.

RPCV 02-28-2008 04:48 PM

A colleague of mine said in the interview that he would only accept a position on the Republic certificate and not Shuttle or CHQ. He also said the tone of the interview changed dramatically. He said he was interested in one particular base and that base only. He was offered a position on the Republic certificate.

I believe I said that I was interested in the Republic certificate due to bases, but that'd I'd be open to the other certificates, and I was not offered a position.

shogun 02-28-2008 04:53 PM

Aren't all the ERJ supposed to go away at CHQ?

Are you in the Republic or Shuttle 3/25 class? Myself and at least a couple other ex-Skywayers will be down in STL for the S5 class.

btwissel 02-28-2008 05:34 PM

what worked for me was stressing in the interview that i would love a job on whatever certificate and whatever base, but i would really love to be based XXX because i/parents/girlfriend/high school shop teacher live there.

got me IND, and the S5 cert.

Uh...no. The 24 CRJ's are leaving by 2010...you may be thinking of that.
