Soon I will be starting reserve in memphis at Pinnacle and will be commuting. My question to those out there is, should I get a crashpad or hotel? I've heard that you do tons of flying and dont feel its necessary to get a crashpad if I will only need a room for a few nights.

Not sure about MEM but here in MSP the reserve guys are not flying much so i would say crash pad would be a good choice.

crash pad all the way until you are a line holder and can commute with firm schedule... being on reserve isn't easy because you never know what you will be doing that day, even when they have assigned you something, and 4 nights in a hotel in one month will cost more than a crash pad.

I am on reserve right now as a captain and I am getting my butt kicked. Luckily it will only be 2 months on reserve. If you are considering becoming a street captain here or upgrading really fast, just know this. Reserve is absolutly terrible here. The only way its cool is because you are hardly on it before you get a line, but as a street captain, you dont have that option

Yeah I also would recommend getting a crash pad. I was on reserve las month in DTW and got to fly a whopping 28 hours. It was a slow month and from what I hear this month is the same. I got a CDO line now, not the best but at least I got some sweet days off and I get to fly.

A little off topic but what do you guys think about the new Lido charts we are supposed to be using? I just saw the info pack in my mailbox the other day. I heard Jetblue just switched back from them to Jepps because everyone hated them.
