Default training

Well I just finished my initial training at express jet, passed the check on Friday morning. I have to say that going through that experience was an eye opener and a lot of fun. The flying public have no idea what it takes to become a pilot. I now get three weeks off before I start IOE.

Fun? I'm an instructor and I wouldn't characterize it as "fun" exactly. A huge relief to be done with? YES. Finally you can relax a little and your job is no longer on the line... until IOE that is. Fun? Naw, way too stressful. I just had a group come through... one dude ended up cussin' out the sim. Yikes. If they only knew... the general public. If they only knew.

We gotta be crazy to go through the hell we go through for the paychecks we get. I can count a number of friends who did less college and training and are making double what I am now. In fact, my brother just got a job and is making as much as I am on 4th year CA pay for his first year. Wow, that sucks.

Training isn't that bad! And our situation doesn't suck, if you think it does you could probably go back to school and get a job like your brother's. Most of my friends that scored high paying jobs out of college work 60+ hours a week (I mean actual nose to the grindstone work, not reading Maxim and US weekly at 380). I prefer to enjoy my office with a view and 14 days off a month.

Default Training can be fun

I had fun during initial sim training as well. As long as you can block out all the job on the line stuff and are well prepared, you can enjoy the challenge of flying a new airplane and dealing with all the emergencies thrown at you in the sim. I actually looked forward to going to the sim every day.

It's all about income POTENTIAL. Yes we start out low, however, we have a chance to make quite a bit of money. Most of these out of college 40-60K a year jobs will level out much less than a Captain at Major, especially if that Major happens to have a purple or brown tail..

Keep your eye on the prize!

Fun? Thats probably the LAST word I would use to describe the training experience at either of the companies I've worked for. Sooo glad that its behind me.
