Keep that 2.5 nose down...when the "100" call comes out....walk out the thrust...by the time you hear "30" you should be at idle...look down the end of the runway and start to pitch back just enough to keep your eyes level with the horizon......try that a few times and see what happens...once u get comfortable u can fine tune it from there.

thanks for the advice....maybe first time OE captains and first time jet drivers just aren't a good match, maybe? I have made a couple nice landings, so there is hope for me yet, lol

you're gonna grease that puppy on the ground....and you're gonna slam it on at times, don't really think that either makes you a better or, a worse pilot...just keep trying to find the technique that works right for you.

My OE cpt. does not have a teaching background, and during the first 3 days there was no prompting on my landings, until the 4th day when I noted that he could probably help me out by calling things out to me that I might not be aware of. The last day of OE, I had some better approach to landings, but I still feel uncomfortable somewhat. Is there anything I should expect from an OE cpt? overall I had a pretty good time, but I feel like I was shorted when it comes to landing the jet, someone with a lot more experience should have been able to make me feel better than I did. thanks for any thoughts.

so who do ya fly for

Took me about 300 hours to get consistently good landings in the CRJ. Damn thing lands unlike most other jets out there with the kamikaze approach to landing...

On target speed at the 100' call, bring about half the power out smoothly but briskly. Keep the pitch the same and when you get the 50 foot call start rounding it out and reducing power briskly such that no later than 20' you're flight idle and maybe one degree nose high. Work the pitch up another degree or two depending on rate of descent and altitude...and land right in the TDZ, rolling on in plenty of time to get stopped on 35 or 26 at PHL. If its gusty, keep just a little power in until the 10' call.

Big thing in this airplane: watch your speed because wiping power too early and getting slow results in a PRANG!, and too much speed and/or leaving power in too long results in excessive float and nosewheel touchdowns.

whoareyou,
I think a good IOE captain definitely makes a difference.. I had an excellent role model and feel very grateful for it. The first few days, he gave me a short debrief after every approach and asked me what I could've done differently/better. Now I've come a long way from being that terrified OE student, but I still don't feel super comfortable with my plane. But I think that's totally natural for everyone.
and you're right, it's been so windy in the NE the past couple days! I've been working out my right arm like crazy. Just yesterday when we were clearing the runway I saw an RJ on final and commented to my captain how tough it must be for you guys, with such a low wing clearance.

1000TT Just over 100ME

One little trick I find very helpful is take your landing weight and add 21 to it for your N1% coming down final. It almost always pegs the speed at Vref+5. Of course if the winds are gusty you might need to adjust a little.
