The biggest thing to remember about a landing is that "Greasing it on" is not a measure of a good landing.

The first measure is that you are on speed, on centerline, and in the touchdown zone.

The second issue is that you dont always want to grease the airplane on, landing on 11/29 in EWR or 35/26 in Phl, SNA, MDW and the like demand that you put the airplane spot and speed and get the plane stopped.

When you focus on getting the airplane spot and speed the greasers will come.
Dont worry to much about greasing it on as long as you put it where you want with a certain limit of smoothness.

LOL that wasnt my point. the post i was responding to suggested that the check airman must have been a CFI because he was a good instructor. I was simply stating that you dont have to have prior instructing experience to be a good check airman, and i cited the military as an example. not trying to start a civilian vs. military thing because i believe theyre equally as good, just pointing out that military instructors usually have no CFI time and can still get the job done.
