Scenic Airlines

Does anybody have any information about Scenic Airlines in the Las Vegas area? It says they have no hiring minimums other than Comm/multi/inst, but I can't seem to get a response from them. Are they currently hiring? Is there some unwritten "preferred minimums?" Any info is appreciated.

TrevorW 10-29-2007 03:17 PM

I applied a while back and haven't heard anything either. Be sure to post when you find something out.

cfii2007 10-29-2007 03:22 PM

I interviewed about a month ago. Minimums are Commercial Multi, flight time is irrelevant.

They are still hiring and holding one class a month. Most guys are spending a month or two in the pool.

Did you get the job? Is there a phone number to call or some way to follow up other than filling in the application? I would really like to work for them

DitchDog 10-29-2007 04:58 PM

Scenic is doing some restructuring...(namely merging with Grand Canyon Airlines/Pappillion). It wouldn't supprise me if they are just a bit busy...keep bugging them.

cfii2007 10-29-2007 05:00 PM

No, I was not hired. Fill out the online application. If you get the interview invite, read the gouge and do the simulator prep with Bob.

COTriple7 10-29-2007 05:41 PM

Hiring has slowed some, but do to attrition I would expect it to continue into the forseable future. I've moved up 9 seniority spots since being hired two months ago. Just fill out the online application. Mins are comm/multi. Any questions feel free to ask.

OnTheWayUp 10-30-2007 08:46 AM

How are you liking it there? What is the schedule like? When do you think the hiring will pick back up? How is flying the twin otter?

COTriple7 10-30-2007 11:00 AM

So far so good, great pilot group and great training. As for the schedule we bid for days off based on seniority. The majority of pilots have 2 consecutive days off and some have 3 per week. Hiring should remain constant with a class every other month or so for attrition. We are entering our slow season but it will start to get busy again around May. In September we had an FO log 165 hours of flight time. The otter is like a giant 172 with turbines. Pretty easy to fly except due to the massive tail, even a slight crosswind requires a lot of correction. Other than that just be patient, I'm sure you will hear something from pilot recruitment eventually.

The otter in a crosswind will make a great crosswind landing pilot out of you. How times have changed with mins at Scenic. Are you still smiling for the camera? Do you know a CAPT. named A Brown?

COTriple7 10-30-2007 11:40 AM

Unfortunately sometimes we do still have to smile for the camera. I haven't flown with Aaron yet but I do know him. Guessing you are over at SkyWest? How is life over there? Hoping to make the jump to SkyWest next summer.

Aaron is great, I was in his new hire class. SKW is good, they love Scenic pilots. Heck, right now they love any pilot. Have fun down there, I miss it sometimes.

Used to have to take pictures with passengers before you boarded. I never did. Delays the whole process and is a burden for everyone.

cfii2007 10-30-2007 03:03 PM

Ah.......I forgot to smile during the interview.

rsmithadx 10-30-2007 05:40 PM

Unless you are desperate I would look elsewhere.....I interviewed 3 years ago for a DX position and had to laugh at how they produce a release....

Las Vegas also isn't in my opinion isn't the greatest place to live.

cfii2007 10-31-2007 05:22 AM

I really didn't want to live in Vegas either, but interviewed just in case.

I applied back in early September and never heard back. Followed up with an email but didn't get a response.

If you want it that badly and you are qualified for the position just be persistant and keep calling them. You will eventually get a hold of them. This also shows them that you are truly interested in the position.

Berkut 11-02-2007 12:58 PM

Anyone know if they are hiring people for maintenance?

FL600 11-02-2007 01:50 PM

I just applied to Scenic today....I'll let ya'll know if/when I hear....

cfii2007 11-06-2007 03:24 PM

If you have a wet Commerical/Multi you'll probably get called..........

Berkut 11-06-2007 04:30 PM

They haven't called me. I think their hiring has slowed a bit.

cfii2007 11-06-2007 05:04 PM

They are putting people in the pool.......so you may be right.

COTriple7 11-06-2007 06:04 PM

The recruiting department has just been busy...the hiring will continue.

FL600 11-06-2007 07:22 PM

Haven't heard, but then again I'm really not too concerned, it's only been a couple days. I think I'll start getting worried after a few weeks!

Berkut- what are your times and when did u apply?

Berkut 11-06-2007 07:33 PM

I only have about 250/15 or so. I applied back in mid-September.

OnTheWayUp 11-07-2007 01:23 AM

I applied about a month ago and still have heard nothing...I'm at 250/160

cfii2007 11-07-2007 04:22 AM

You should both get a call, they prefer low time guys.

FL600 11-07-2007 08:05 AM

I'm about the same, at 240/140 --- I hope we get the opp to interview.

IlliniPilot99 11-07-2007 12:58 PM

is there a training contract???

Berkut 11-07-2007 01:01 PM

Last I heard, no.

I'm not quite sure that they prefer low timers. The fact is, applicants with a few hundred more hours are making the jump to the regionals, so they are basically taking what they can get and have accepted the fact that they are a stepping stone. If anything I think they would "prefer" high timers so they can hire them directly to the left seat, since we are short on captains more than FO's right now.
As for the training contract...that's a negative.

FlyingViking 11-07-2007 05:09 PM

Go Scenic if you get it, I'm one of the old oldtimers there. You will get more PIC time and faster upgrade than you can handle. Too bad it is all 135, but you will always run into someone on a Legacy that smiles and tell you he used to work there. Then they ask; hey is Fox still there? How about Capt. Robinson? What about John? Yeah, Scenic has produced some of the best pilots out there. When you go for the interview - slow down your thinking process and don't act like a CFI on speed that would give his left arm just to fly an old otter. Be straight forward and tell the truth - the guys interviewing you has lots of experince. Good luck!
