Clearing the Air About the ASA TA

Over the past few days a letter entitled “An opportunity to raise the bar” has been circulating that includes a brief review of the ASA TA. While the TA does include substantial improvements over our policy manual, regrettably the letter that was sent out contained some erroneous information. We apologize for the error and any resulting confusion. We encourage you to resolve any lingering questions you may have by following the links at www.skywestalpa.org and viewing the ASA TA yourself.

This was at the END of an email sent out by ALPA or our SkyWest OC. This, I ASSUME, was in response to an email that was sent out by one of our Pro-ALPA captains. I did not personally receive the email that this captain sent out. However, I did receive the email that SkyWest sent out in response to this captain's email.

Any thoughts???

No. How about you?

Unless you explain your post in a little more detail, it's gonna be hard for a lot of people to follow.

"I am afraid of what I might get myself into..."

If you post in a manner that is nothing more than flamebait, and ends in "let the games begin.!", then you might have a problem.

If you state give your opinion in a mutually respectable way, then you can pretty much say whatever.

Everyone seems to be trying to figure out what you have to say.....

I think their TA is better than our current agreement with management. Better pay in all but one seat, trip rigs, duty rigs, a commuter policy, long call reserve, and good scope protection, to name a few of the things I am educated about.

Did they raise the bar? No. They simply got a contract that is on par with places like AWAC. Their TA would have been great 5 years ago, but right now I think its just a "good" contract.

I think raising the bar would mean a contract that is clearly superior to any other regional contract out there. This TA is not.

I got the same email from mgmt, and didn't get the original email from the "pro-ALPA" captain either. Any idea why the original went to only certain people and the response was sent system-wide? Weird.

Since you asked for it...

I think it is a slap in the face of ALPA to have some extremely pro-ALPA pilot print erroneous information regarding ASA's TA in an effort to get ALPA on property. I don't think he was misinformed when he wrote this letter. I have met him and he seems to be a pretty sharp guy. I would be shocked if I were ALPA having someone write a letter on our behalf and putting in misleading information.

Koolaidman I challenge you to compare asa's ta to our current pay and policy manual and come up with a determination for yourself. Don’t listen to what ALPA has to say and don’t listen to managements. One would be very unwise just to listen to management and vise versa. And from what I have studied management’s letter regarding asa's ta has a lot of half truths in it.
