Howdy,
I am curious about Big Sky. Any pilots on here that work there? Qol and any insight would be appreciated. What are realistic times? Do you commute?
Thanks

Here are some facts:

Big Sky is a "market holder" for Northwest Airlines. MAIR Holdings bought them in 2002. MAIR also owns bankrupt Mesaba Airlines. Several attempts to grow Big Sky by bidding regional flying for other mainline carriers have failed. If it weren't for MAIR Holdings bleeding Mesaba's profits to keep them flying, they more than likely would not exist today.

MAIR is a puppet for NWA. You have to ask yourself the question about why they don't fly under the NWA brand? Unfortunately they are being used. Used to threaten the CBA for Mesaba's Pilots and used as a place holder so another regional can't step in and take over those routes in the short term.

Would it be a place to go? That is a big gamble. Being under the thumb of NWA appears to be an uncomfortable place to be right now. When everything comes out in the wash, Big Sky in some form could be a part of NWA's future, or it could be liquidated by MAIR (Big Sky has been in the red EVERY quarter since MAIR bought them in 2002) and the flying out there expaned on and flown by Mesaba or Pinnacle or "New Co" pilots in some new equipment. What would become of the Big Sky pilots in that case is anyone's guess.

The guys and gals flying out there do more than an honest days work and get paid less than an honest days pay. Their CBA is very unfavorable for work rules and wages. They are working very hard for the little money they make and their future is under the direction of some of the most ruthless cutthroats in the whole industry.

If you are looking for an doorway to the regionals, I'd look further down the hall, even if it means a few more months instructing or flying freight.

Default Don't do it

You'd be better off at Colgan, Commutair, or even Great Lakes. Northwest, Mesaba and Mair management is nothing but a bunch of crooks out to screw their employees.
