From the hiring lady at PNCL, expect to hire 650+ 2008 and continue to hire at that rate until end of 09

Most mainlines and regionals are still projecting modest-to-strong hiring through 2008. But any hiring projections right now are a crapshoot at best. $100/barrel oil and Ben Bernanke saying the subprime crisis has not bottomed out yet means the party could stop unexpectedly at any time.

The quote from RAH's 3Q conference call was "650 pilots for 2008" for both growth and attrition.

I don't believe oil costs does too much. It's proportional and an aircraft is still a better deal over a certain amount of distance.

So by your reasoning... oil isn't an operating cost for every airline across the board and the airlines shouldn't raise ticket costs when their operating costs rise.

Are you kidding?! When you can't pass that cost on to the consumer (due to competition, tickets already being sold, discounted contract tickets, etc) it does A LOT!
