Skywest or Republic

Skywest and Republic pilots, I need some help.. I am looking for information on both carriers. I'm currently employed by a 121 carrier, and thinking about leaving. My only choices are Skywest and Republic... need some info pertaining to growth and hiring for next year. Also, upgrade time. I live in Chicago but am willing to commute. I have been reading info on this website for a long time now, But still undecided where should I go...Any info on the two carriers is appreciated.. Thanks my fellow pilots.

If you have 2000TT and 500ME, consider applying for a street captain position with Mesaba. SF340, DTW base. Quick commute from Chicago area.

I would go with Republic

ORD goes much more Junior @ SKYW. You'll almost certainly get it out of class.

Be a union pilot..

SkyWest. I heard we are getting A380s from another thread. How could you not come here?

Other than that. I'd pick the place that has a base where you want to live. Avoid commuting.

Yes, because the Teamsters are the end all and RAH's pilot union participation level is so very high...

I like SkyWest the best, but then again, I'm probably a little biased . Everyone I know at RAH likes it too, they're both good companies. So I say choose the one with the crew base at or close to where you want to live. Commuting is the pits!

Awesome.. 7 replies and this thread has already turned into a union vs. anti-union debate.. well done people.. why dont we all just turn in for the night and call ourselves flight info..

Before we descend into finger pointing and worthless name calling, just a couple of opinions on your situation. If you want Chicago right away, Skywest is the better choice, as I understand ORD at S5 is fairly senior. But as I've said before, we've got plenty of reserves in Chicago now, so you may spend a significant amount of time on reserve. (unless of course, this "absolutely huge announcement" I keep hearing about comes through...)

If you don't mind commuting to a reserve captain slot (and have the time for it), then RJ85FO has it right, take the street captain slot on the Saab at Mesaba. Having lived both lives, my personal opinion is I'd rather be an FO living in domicile than a captain commuting to reserve. But thats just me. Good luck, we'd be happy to have you at SkyWest, its a great place.
