One tidbit I picked up from the FO was that there is an "auto" switch for the bleeds and packs and the buttons are left in all the time. So I guess the answer is in the 145 everything you want is a button press away, in the 170 you don't even need to press the button. ;)

well if you dont have to push those buttons what else is there for a 145 FO to do! Oh yeah....sling the gear, and take credit for the bad landings

Don't worry the pax already assume the bad landings are the FO, or at least the ones who don't think the autopilot lands the plane or ATC does by remote control. Let's hope they never decide to automate the gear handle...

Yep....not a lot of button pushing in the 170.... just alot of making sure the buttons are still in their AUTO position so that "system logic" can do it all for you. We actually do mess with the hydrauilic pumps a bit.... and well we still turn the lights on and off...... and well there is TONS of button pushing with the FMS and Guidance Panel ......Embraer was nice enough to put a couple of yokes in the cockpit but I am not sure why.... between the autothrottles and everything else its a flying PC. :)

All kidding aside it is very very automated and "the company" encourages the use of automation to the fullest.......

As for CMH.... i am on the Shuttle cert and just got CMH.....you can have my slot..... just as soon as they let my rebel butt back to ATL....:)

p.s.......SIM 6 tonight.....oh and squeezed in between or 11pm to 3am sim last night and tonights 11pm sim ....we have the oral portion of our checkride.... hum.....what was that limitation again.......

-a 145 FO can take 170 CA when seniority will hold it
-an FO on anything CANNOT take FO on anything else as all FO payrates are the same
-a Republic 170 CA cannot take Shuttle 170 CA as it is not a pay increase
-a 145 CA can take 170 CA after sitting through the 2 year seat lock

That SUX! Let’s say your wife takes a new job in a city that has a Shuttle E-170 base but you are a Republic E-170 pilot. You're screwed!

Also a friend of mine was hired into the CRJ back in May of 07 & he’s still sitting reserve in IAH! If he was able to transition he could gain better QOL. This seems like a very poor policy for both the pilots & Mgmnt. I understand Mgmnt doesn’t want to pay additional training cost but I argue that they are anyways plus the cost of sitting pilots. Having to hire newbie’s on the E-170 because they are so short staffed when they are obviously fat on CRJ FO’s. So they still have to pay for training on the newbie as well as pay for pilots to sit on their asses on the CRJ.

According to my friend, he only flies about 30 hours a month and has NEVER broken guarantee. His initials are RM if anyone at RAH wants to check my sources.

For those thinking about changing classes and/or going to the CRJ at RAH, don’t do it! Take the Jungle Bus or the Jungle Jet! There is no growth on Canada’s Reset Jet so you'll be on reserve for a LONG LONG time (remember that those infront of you on the CRJ are junior as well) and don’t expect to upgrade soon seeing you probably got hired with around 1000 hours and you’re only going to fly round 30 or so hours a month. You do the math.

That is pretty much all true. A couple guys above me on the list even had FULL TIME jobs at Six Flags this summer in SDF. But in my situation reserve on the CRJ is actually pretty great. I did a lateral transition from Mesa where I was on reserve with 8 days off to CHQ where I moved to base and fly at MOST 10 days a month on reserve. It sucks for guys who commute and/or don't have enough hours to upgrade. But for me its the best QOL I've ever had. Not to mention the signing bonus I got for going to the CRJ.

Couldn't agree more. Back to the original question...stay away from Shuttle at CMH. The lines are decreasing and continue to go to ATL. Reserve is currently 7+ months, flying 20 hours every 3 weeks.

HercDriver130 01-05-2008 07:50 AM

well if the lines are increasing in ATL.... funny nobody in the lastest S5 class got assigned there even with 7 people asking for it.....hopefully in a few months.....

Probably b/c plenty of senior FOs already bid it and you are backfilling their spots in CMH. ATL was a very desirable base compared to the RW openings of PHL and CMH.
