Upgrade Accuracy on APC
#1
Would you guys say that APC's posting of the most junior captain's hire date is a pretty accurate way to estimate of the current upgrade time? I realize upgrade time fluctuates quickly. Just as an estimate, though?
Thanks.
Thanks.

not without other inside information...I know for example at pdt, the last upgrade shown is an 2004 hire, so it looks like it is a 3+ year upgrade...but there was a long period when they weren't hiring and people were leaving, in fact, over half of our f/o's were hired in 2007, so there are large uneven gaps between '04 and now...it's not like its a linear rate, upgrade times will go from 2 years to 6 months all of a sudden if you have a big gap, or large growth, so its really hard to gauge the upgrade time of an airline by the date of hire of the last upgrade... it's just a snapshot of a moving dynamic thing

I asked the same thing, however in a different way. My question was, "what is the average time for upgrading with each regional?"
I did get one response. At RAH, upgrade time is running about 2.5 years if I remember correctly.

The Junior Captain data is probably the most rapidly changing data point industry wide, and is certainly info that we're watching. We've pulled data off the profiles in the past because it couldn't be verified or had other accuracy problems. It's a good bit of data for job seekers, but it's one that's tough to keep current.
We have a pretty good source (i.e. pilots at the airlines profiled) who keep us updated. We usually hear about it in a big way if something isn't correct as many guys have taken ownership of the info. We also have good relationships with many of the HR departments and that's another source of info (obviously there are limits there).
Even though the site is updated EVERY DAY, there could be some inaccuracies as a result of changes not being submitted/verifiable.
We do our best, and we'll gladly accept criticism and comparison as long as it can help improve the info that we offer. Did I mention it's all free
APC is "for pilots by pilots" and is only as good as the community make it, so far during the last 2 years since we started, we've been overwhelmed by the support and participation. Thanks!

In the interest of accuracy...it's down to a year with most people jumping over between 1-2 years. Call the average 1.5 years. Of course, it depends on if you hold out for the big shiny one with the engines under the wings. Wouldn't want the ego to take a hit...

For RAH it's a little misleading. The most current award vs most junior CA are two different things. Since the jet for jobs guys are leaving the company did a massive award where people sitting at 1yr with the company were awarded captain positions. However the date they had to start class has been set for May, 6 months away at the time. It's possible they could start class sooner however it's also possible they won't start until the final date in May.
