Comair Hiring Freeze
Are we the only regional that has a freeze on or are the other regionals also stopping?
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think expressjet isn't hiring right now.
|
How long is Comair's expected to last?
|
Anyone know the status of Republic or Skywest/ASA?
|
AFAIK, ASA's still bringing them in...
|
Classes at RAH into april as far as I am aware.....

Who says Comair is on a hiring freeze? Where does that say that??
|
RAH is planning to hire 700-800 during 2008. Granted, some of that is to cover the 20-30/month attrition rate, but RAH is also adding more aircraft than it is losing in 2008. The grass is still a nice shade of green...

As far as I know they are still hiring and doing classes. Maybe they are doing it to give the guys in the training department something to do. I dunno.

I think training will have more time to come up with scenarios for our recurrent training. As FTR just said, hiring is coming to a stand still. And if the numbers posted on the other thread are correct, we will have it this way for most of 2008. So you and I are going to be on reserve for a long time. That or we can apply to somewhere else that is growing.

True....its hard to tell what the right move is. Should those of us at the bottom wait and see or do we make a jump? Decisions decisions??? |

Saw a previous post and tried the Jetcareers.com site 'couse I hadn't seen it before. Then found this on it:
Comair set to cut fleet, flights Friday January 11, 2008 Comair, a regional subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, will eliminate up to 14 50-seat aircraft from its fleet of 131 regional jets. Delta previously announced it will cut its domestic flights by up to 5%, a reduction that is the equivalent of 10 mainline aircraft and 35 RJs. Delta Connection carriers will have up to 15% fewer scheduled block hr. as the company reduces flying and fuel consumption. At the same time, DL intends to increase international capacity by 15%. Some of the Comair reductions will be achieved through decreased utilization while others will result in the return of aircraft to lessors, President John Selvaggio said in a memo sent to employees Wednesday. Eight of the eliminated aircraft are on leases that expire soon while the remaining six will be removed from service and could be sold. "With fewer block hours, Comair must align our staffing across the company to support what will become a smaller operation," Selvaggio said, adding that he expected "front-line reductions" to be met through attrition. "Most immediately we expect to achieve savings by revising existing programs as well as by implementing new technology initiatives that will help us streamline our work." Comair currently has 6,300 employees and operates 697 flights to 88 cities in the US and Canada. Delta has expressed an interest in selling the subsidiary for some time. |
Is Ameriflight hiring now, is it difficult to get Burbank or Ontario as a base, how was the interview process in Burbank and how is the schedule for newhires?

Comair Store
I just saw on Epic a Comair store and all of a sudden I have that annoying infomercial guy in my head. Billy Mayz Hayz here with the Comair store. With prices this low we are practically given the stuff away. :p
|
Hah no kiddin. Glad to see they're focusing on the important stuff.

Straight from the source, my interviewer last week at Comair said hiring is at 8-12 new hires per month.
|
Expressjet wont have any new classes till april......At least thats the latest....
|
From what I know we are still loosing atleast 1 pilot a day, so it is easy for attrition to help with the reduction of flying. So much so for all we all know they may have to hire a few each month just to hold down the fort. Because remember our training is the longest, 2 and a half months, so at the rate of attrition someone hired today wouldnt see the line till we were down another 60 pilots. Anyhow until they stop interviewing and until I stop seeing "newbies" walking through ops I wont' think we are on a hiring freeze.

MP Post
I thought MP had a post on the other thread about Feb. being the last class for a while. Oh well, I may have misread that. And Paok, I'm glad you're staying put for the forseeable future. I'm tired of going backwards as a % of seniority.
Also, any new hire will not see actual line flying for quite some time. I'm not sure how long IOE is taking these days, but people were getting a month vacation waiting to start. |
Chow and others,To the best of my knowledge we are still hiring, and we are still interviewing. The current plan is too slow this hiring process to allow attrition to help level staffing needs. As we all know staffing needs are based upon spreadsheet numbers with projected attrition. So crew forcasting planning is taking a shot in the dark. We currrently have small classes starting biweekly with a short break in February as the footprint for training is massaged. I personally think that good news is headed down the pipe but we may have to weather a storm such as a Delta merger before things begin to turn. Some people are scared of this and are cutting and running. My only thoughts on this is if all DCI carriers and other non DCI carriers do have to scale back wouldnt it be better to have 6 months in instead of 1.

Believe me when I say that i would like to see a light at the end of the tunnel but after MANY promises made by our past "4"CEO's in five years, and yet more negative news forgive me when say "show me the money!" People are scared and running? I would cater this to a wise opportunity having the ability to see what really is and has been happening here. Anyone can try and offer me some Koolaide here but ll i would need to do is look at the facts and history and NOT what may happen if this should occur or that occur, or they "heard" something from someones' cousin who is married to the daughter of a man that heard comair has been bought! Sick of speculation and rumors and koolaide. Before I get flamed, I enjoy the flying here and personal I fly with, just sick of managements lies and their advocates trying to force koolaide to me and others. Want to raise morale, or quality...show us the money or at least an ACTUAL VISION of where this company is headed. |

I read on anothe forum that SkyWest may be buying Comair to secure more Delta flying. Just another rumor until the PR though

Yep. You posted on the "Comair or Eagle ???" thread ... "Shortly after New Year's I have interviews with both Comair and Eagle." How did you like Eagle? |
I had a great experience with eagle! Everyone was very nice and outgoing (employees and applicants). The only bad part was that the whole process took 12 hours from arrival at HQ to completion of the SIM. if you are interviewing soon check out the most recent post on aviationinterviews.com. got any questions, pm me!
|
Welcome to Eagle !! For those of you thinking about coming here, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Sure the upgrade is long right now, but they may drop to 3 or 4 years. Qaulity of life on the EMB ORD is good, and I think this would be a good place to wait out the recession. Well back to studying, can you believe folks have failed the indoc open book test? Well I can't let that happen to me!!
|
So you're in class now? How is everything? pretty fast-paced, i'd imagine! I start on Feb 4. If you are going to ORD, tell me what you've heard about life/flying up there. All i know is that reserve is short (1-3) months on the EMB but thats about it.

The line for the EMB ORD as well as BOS are great, weekends off, plenty of out and backs, etc. When you come, be sure to bring money, eating out around here is expensive, so most everyone goes grocery shopping at Super Wal Mart, and packs thier lunch. Things to study of course are emergency memory items (only 6 of them SUPER EASY) memory items, profiles, callouts and systems. You are paid fully during training, first check is around 600.00 bucks mailed to your address of record. Per diem is around $1.95 for 16 hours, daily plus the new pay increase we just got. Come here ready to work your butt off, stay on task and you will do fine. If you have any more questions, pm me and I will be glad to help you out. You coming from Comair, right? Again Welcome, and I'm sure I will see you around the "schoolhouse"!! |
